Negotiating with Starmer to keep Farage out of power: Nah.
Negotiating with Vladmir Putin: Sure thing.
Also Zack Polanski: Starmer shouldn't negotiate with Trump, he isn't to be trusted!

"Friends of Mr Mandelson" I would guess. Very close friends. So close you can hardly tell the difference between "them" and him.

Peter Mandelson asked Foreign Office for Β£500k severance payment, files show Ex-peer sacked as US ambassador over Epstein links was offered Β£75,000, documents released by Cabinet Office show

Mandelson wanted Β£547,000 severance after his sacking as US Ambassador. Turns out was paid off with Β£75,000. I would have paid him precisely zero. What would he do, go to an employment tribunal? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Armilla patrol - Wikipedia

Times have changed. I remember the Royal Navy's "Armilla patrol" which provided security to shipping in the Gulf continuously from 1980 up until 2011 when it evolved into "Operation Kipion" and then dwindled to nothing. Why? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armilla...

Fake school violence condemned as β€˜malicious clickbait’ Example of disinformation memes that have proliferated online Cally Councillor Paul Convery has condemned the AI-generated claims of "school wars" across London. But he has also urged parents and schools to remain vigilant. The Met Police has made arrests of the alleged perpetrators of online disinformation. Secondary schools in Islington, Hackney and Camden have been on alert for several weeks after online postings that announced violence between school children. As a result, hundreds of police officers across London have been rostered to provide reassurance outside schools and after-school locations. Not surprisingly many young people and parents have been alarmed and anxious.

Topic 7: Archive - the Railway Conversion League 1958 to 1994 | Transport watch UK

I remember The Railway Conversion League (later named Campaign not League). There's a fascinating archive at www.transport-watch.co.uk/topic-7-arch... One of their rather superficial arguments was that road freight could be taken off conventional roads.

Sure there's been a spike in oil prices today. But the world economy is much better insulated from oil price shocks than in previous crises. In large part that's because the world economy is less reliant on hydro-carbon energy.

This is utterly foolish. US forces aren’t being used for a β€œdefensive purpose”.

Indeed in some ways the Green Party in places like Islington looks and sounds young and progressive but is politically quite ambiguous about things like affordable housing.

The narrative that Green Party and Reform are equivalent "extremists" is silly. I don't buy it. Nor do most other Labour members. Voters don't either. Labour has political disagreement with the Green Party. But they aren't "extremists".

Emergency response and repairs is very costly and is promptly passed-on to bill payers. Instead of waiting for disasters it ought to be preventing them happening. Thames pleads it cannot sufficiently invest in upgrading ancient infrastructure. But it's had 36 years since privatisation to do so.

Thames Water boss is blasted by Islington’s CouncilΒ Leader After the Thames Water pipe burst and catastrophic flood the clean-up continues on Caledonian Road. Islington Council's leader has written to Thames Water's Chief Executive criticising "years of neglect and inaction." Cllr O'Halloran who arrived on the scene of last Tuesday's flooding within minutes also condemned the "woefully ineffective" response by Thames Water. It took over two hours for Thames Water to isolate the burst and stop the flow of water. The incident led to complete loss of water supply to 14,000 homes and business throughout south Islington. Supply was only restored to most homes by early evening on Tuesday.

I understand the Green Party is running candidates in all wards, the ICI only in about half. Labour has candidates in every ward.

Not quite. Both have selected candidates. Both have rather divergent politics. Despite being a joint Town Hall group, they voted differently last night on the Council’s annual budget.

The Green Party in Islington has now repudiated an electoral pact with Islington Community Independents, a Corbyn-leaning fledgling political party. Only months ago they promised not to stand against each other. It was a called a "non-aggression pact". But it's broken down after barely six months.”

Police and schools are taking the problem seriously but also proportionately. Although it's an invented "war", there's kids getting hyped-up about it. Exactly the same formula is being posted about groups of "competing" schools in Harrow, Brent, Hackney, Camden, Islington and other Boroughs too.

There's online memes and TikToks apparently organising and publicising a "war" between schools in Boroughs and even between Boroughs. Naturally, many parents are worried. But it's not real. It's malicious online clickbait. We all need to be calm about this not panicked.

To be fair to Wolves, although they've had a miserable season they managed to spike the Arsenal guns midweek. Four days after that lacklustre show, Arsenal comes to WHL with a League winning mentality. Funny old game.

I have always admired the writing style of the Economist. Consistently good for decades. This opening paragraph is a wonderfully pithy summary of the fall of Andrew whats-his-name.

Does this have to be 100% descended from English, Welsh, Scots or Irish ancestors? How about people with half their ancestors being English, Welsh, Scots or Irish? Or maybe a quarter? Is there a cut-off fraction?

It depends on the meaning of "politics". Farage isn't very good at SW1 "politics", the tactical ins and outs of the Parliamentary game. He's been an effective, ruthless Party manager though. And he has an adroit grasp of political culture.

Very sad news. A fantastic actor. Not great at politics. But Latin American philanthropic work was sound. Best performance: with DeNiro in True Confessions (1981).

What an absolute snowflake of a man he is. A shaggy dog story in which nothing happened. His outrage underlined that this happened in his "upmarket area of London".

Thomas Frank: Inside the Tottenham manager's eight-month struggle Thomas Frank has been sacked as Tottenham manager after just eight months in charge. BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel takes a closer look at his tenure.

The latest calamity at Tottenham clearly isn't about Thomas Frank's managerial and coaching abilities. The club is in turmoil, the players lack discipline and ambition. The departure of Postecoglu, Levy and now Frank is a pattern not a one-off. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

The Bangor University debating society did make a tiny error. They told Reform that Pochin wanting to speak was not β€œin line with our values, this request was refused”. That’s a trigger word to Reform’s thin skinned weirdos.

This is nonsense. Labour is proposing a budget with growth not cuts. Benali has said he is opposed to savings being made in back office functions. Really? He's opposed to productivity and efficiency? Labour is protecting front line services.

10.02.2026 15:53 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The Labour Party membership does not support Farage-like policies. Nor does the overwhelming majority of Labour MPs. It's electorally stupid. Aping another Party's policies does not bring that party's supporters over. They stick with what they reckon is the real thing.

This will never happen but it's lunacy for Starmer's faction to even threaten it.
