Horrific.
Horrific.
1. Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit.
An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans.
It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

Ben Ryan tweet saying: βThe persistent and widespread claim that youth with gender dysphoria are at an extremely high risk of suicide absent cross-sex hormones is not based in evidence. See: mentalhealth.bmj.com/content...β
Hey, @benryanwriter.bsky.social - I pointed out the glaring error in this analysis.

They must also be paying to elect the red state reps who spent their time at my local town hall laughing and laughing about how theyβre banning wind and solar power, and tearing out as many existing renewable energy sources as they possibly can.

In 1983, Ruth Schwartz Cowan published a book called More Work for Mother where she argued that modern household tech (washing machines/vacuums) didn't reduce women's housework time, it just raised standards of domesticity. Household work is never shortened by tech & you can extrapolate that out.

i see a lot of "oh, would you rather be a peasant farmer" replies, which probably feels very nice to post, but it's a bit simple. absolute progress is good to think about, but so is relative progress! new technology contains political questionsβimpt to consider them than assume "it'll all work out"
The Christians you call βfakeβ very much see themselves as βthe good onesβ.
Theocracy may sound good in theory. In practice, it poisons religious groups and nations, and sears the consciences of participating individuals. Separation of church and state protects all of us.
Read an article of a white woman wrongly arrested based on this. She recorded her conversation with the sheriff who freely, joyfully admitted that he didnβt care that she had proof she wasnβt the one Flock recorded. His glee triggered my PTSD. Cops are having a blast with this.
Using political office to define who gets to be a βreal Christianβ is going to end well.

Last year, I learned the horrific story of Tony Mitchell, who froze to death in a bare concrete jail cell in Alabama.
The sheriff overseeing the jail still has his job. But half of his jailers have been charged in Mitchell's death.
This is that story:

Investigators say there are undisclosed detention sites scattered around Colorado, hidden in plain sight between strip malls and office parks.

I wonder what percentage of Americans knows that the CIA helped overthrow a democracy in Iran in 1953, installing a brutal dictator who tortured and murdered people. Republicans keep citing the 1979 Islamic Revolution as if that was the start of U.S.-Iran hostilities. Go back 26 years earlier.
