4th Circuit Rules That States Can Compel Trans Adults To "Appreciate Their Sex" Via Care Bans They ruled that states "encouraging citizens to appreciate their sex" through care bans is a constitutional goal, affirming West Virginia's Medicaid ban for trans adults.

1. Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit.

An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans.

It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

Hey, @benryanwriter.bsky.social - I pointed out the glaring error in this analysis.

They must also be paying to elect the red state reps who spent their time at my local town hall laughing and laughing about how they’re banning wind and solar power, and tearing out as many existing renewable energy sources as they possibly can.

The infuriating history of the law that doomed abortion rights The men behind the Hyde Amendment saw it as their ticket to paradise.

The Hyde Amendment was an opening salvo in two contemporary wars: on women and on the poor.

The right to abortion became a right only for those who could afford it.

In 1983, Ruth Schwartz Cowan published a book called More Work for Mother where she argued that modern household tech (washing machines/vacuums) didn't reduce women's housework time, it just raised standards of domesticity. Household work is never shortened by tech & you can extrapolate that out.

i see a lot of "oh, would you rather be a peasant farmer" replies, which probably feels very nice to post, but it's a bit simple. absolute progress is good to think about, but so is relative progress! new technology contains political questionsβ€”impt to consider them than assume "it'll all work out"

The Christians you call β€œfake” very much see themselves as β€œthe good ones”.

Theocracy may sound good in theory. In practice, it poisons religious groups and nations, and sears the consciences of participating individuals. Separation of church and state protects all of us.

Read an article of a white woman wrongly arrested based on this. She recorded her conversation with the sheriff who freely, joyfully admitted that he didn’t care that she had proof she wasn’t the one Flock recorded. His glee triggered my PTSD. Cops are having a blast with this.

A jail death shocked an Alabama town. The sheriff remains in power. The jail death of a man who suffered from mental illness drew criminal charges against Alabama guards. The sheriff says he’s done nothing wrong.

Last year, I learned the horrific story of Tony Mitchell, who froze to death in a bare concrete jail cell in Alabama.

The sheriff overseeing the jail still has his job. But half of his jailers have been charged in Mitchell's death.

This is that story:

AI error or not, Iran school bombing is a permanent stain on America’s soul | Will Bunch A debate on AI in warfare obscures the truth about an Iran school bombing. U.S. humans are to blame for this war crime.

Wounded Knee. Tulsa. My Lai. Abu Ghraib

And now, Minab

We need to talk about the horror when 180 little schoolgirls, boys and teachers were obliterated by U.S. Tomahawk missiles last week. And tell Congress: Not one more dime for these war crimes

I wonder what percentage of Americans knows that the CIA helped overthrow a democracy in Iran in 1953, installing a brutal dictator who tortured and murdered people. Republicans keep citing the 1979 Islamic Revolution as if that was the start of U.S.-Iran hostilities. Go back 26 years earlier.
