Please spare a thought for James Dyson, the Brexit-voting billionaire who bought up 33,000 acres of farmland to avoid tax then moved his business to Singapore. He's the real victim here.

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

Anti‐retinal Autoantibodies in Hydroxychloroquine Eye Toxicity Objective Autoimmune retinopathy and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)-related retinal toxicity share many similarities, raising the possibility autoimmunity plays a role in HCQ retinopathy. The objective of...

Among 270 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, those with HCQ retinal toxicity had a higher likelihood of testing positive for anti-arrestin and anti-PKM2 antiretinal autoantibodies, which could be potential new biomarker for risk of developing HCQ eye toxicity

What is the difference between a frog and a toad? Ever wondered what the difference between a frog and a toad is? Find out all about these amphibians and why they're so different.

A bit of evolutionary biology for a Saturday morning*: all toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads. And the distinction between toads and frogs is just that toads tend to be terrestrial, whereas frogs tend to be more aquatic, with wet skin. 1/6

Graph of maternal mortality rate against year for the UK. Rate bounces until and down around 500 deaths per 100,000 births until about 1940, when it falls sharply. It’s been very low (~1–3 per 100,000) ever since.

This graph is astonishing. The people that bang on about β€œnatural birth” and β€œwomen have been doing this forever without help” need to be forced to stare at this until their eyes water.

The final piece of advice I would like to give to new folks tonight is that Bluesky will be what you make of it. When I came over from the former Twitter, I resolved to be more kind to others here than I was over there. That choice has made being here so much better. Keep it in mind for yourself.
