Sodium-ion battery cells already near lithium-ion cost parity, set to get cheaper" at www.ess-news.com/2026/01/09/s...

Personal and independent views. The time to limit the impacts of climate change is rapidly running out. I have been doing what I can for 20+ years. Careers - engineering(weighing, public transport, comms), digital media, teaching, training, retirement

People make a big deal about sound from wind turbines. I couldn’t hear the turbine whir in Wyoming over the deafening Interstate 80 traffic noise.
We biked through farmland doing at least triple duty in Sicily. Orchard, sheep, wind farm. Didn’t hear the turbines above the sheep & wind noise
This is classic Britain.
A few miles from here, years ago, a bunch of protestors harrased a pediatrician on a council estate because they thought she was a 'pedo', after illiterates spread a few rumours.
As I already stated, I don't believe in one solution for all and not permanently. That's why democracy is far more important than any political party.
We don't live in Utopia.
Such decisions need very detailed analysis.
Thats my point, if the analysis shows it is better in state ownership, then fine, otherwise leave it as it is.
It's not a decision that should be based on political ideology, it should be based on facts.
Also events may mean that situation changes later.
Context (hopefully correct)
President Nixon was deposed in 1974, Gerald Ford took over as president and a failing US economy. Although the US had withdrawn ground troops it was still bombing in Vietnam.
ANALYSIS: Badenoch and Farage might not want to admit it, but Conservative and Reform plans to scrap net zero whilst boosting the North Sea would actually make the UK even more reliant on gas imports 🤔

A new Superloop express route has been given the green light 🚦
The SL15 bus between Clapham Junction and Eltham will be introduced following strong public support. It will boost connections between South West and South East London and make journeys quicker.
There are 96,000 legacy mines in Australia!!

Litigation after litigation. Makes everything more expensive.
It's almost an extra tax on Americans.
And not just for this, but in al aspects of the economy..
"A US district court judge has denied a Trump administration request to delay judgement in its case against Equinor’s 810MW Empire Wind, pending a further Bureau of Ocean Energy Management decision affecting the project."

Angus: They’ve created absolute chaos in the Middle East, and yet they take time out to insult Canada — to say that they can take us over. And then Trump again today doubles down, calling our prime minister his governor.
Sorry, but as a Brit that interview could easily be decades ago. I'm just seeing unchanging stereo types.
What's with the plastic macs??
No one wears those now.
Can't believe it!
Got a same day response from my doctors surgery.
Last time I put in a request I waited a week, then had to submit another request to get them to do something.
And this is after they were forced to accept requests all day by the Gov. and were complaining they would be overloaded.
Democracy will either result in a seesaw back and forth series of policies, or if there is less polarisation a series of consistent policies.
To be fare in this country we have done relatively well until Farage got active again.
There is no one solution, unless you are a dictator.
Democracy is the solution, but it may not save us.
But that's life!
I do believe you need to manage a nation and that one solution is good for one area that needs management, while a different solution is best elsewere.
It's highly likely that the 'deal' reduced costs for both companies.
Even if they didn't make profits, the cost of the installation(s) would be passed on to the user/consummer of the product.
Hence if the deal reduced the cost, then even a non profit making organisation would keep prices down.
I don't know what the arrangement is
But both companies likely assessed the options
Sainsburys invested a lot of money to install charger that currently are underused, but eventually won't.
The energy co. needed more chargers but compared what Sainsburys are offering with what they needed to spend
That has been said for the last 200 years.
I don't believe in that happening, or if it does, it won't end well.
It's not always the case that every EV user has to have their own chargers.
If one user has over capacity, they can do deals with others to fully use the infrastructure.
Bus companies are also allowing fleet operators to use their charging infrastruture.
Most likely true, but as the EV range improves, it could be the case that in the South we have over built the infrastructure or are in the process of overbuilding.
Sainsburys have recently done a deal with an energy company so that their EV fleet can charge at Sainsburys supermarkets.
Well we agree on that.
An offshore wind farm requires more people to maintain it than a gas fired power station.
Although. That is already changing with the use of robots, drones and improved design.
EVs are evolving practically yearly.
BYD have probably nailed the range and battery safety concerns.
And Chinese vehicles are probably going to dominate the UK car market.
I haven't owned a car since about 1998.
My last job was about 11 miles away and the commute took 3 hours out of my day.
My degree is in electrical and electronic eng.
The point is that don't get stuck in what is available now.
Internal Combustion Engined vehicles took many decades to evolve.
Sure, the electrician I last used went on a course to install chargers. They paid for it themselves because it's their job.
And that was when it was a lot simpler to do than now.
Expertise is distributed these days, no organisation, state or commercial can build a project on their own.
I am old enough to have experienced life when nearly everything was state owned, to now when much less is state owned.
I worked for a commercial company that developed a very large project for the London Underground in the 1980s/90s.
Many companies were contracted by us to build the system.
Heat pumps are crucial in decarbonsing energy.
They will reduce energy demand significantly which means renewables are more likely to cover our energy demand.
Without them it's more likely we would need more nuclear energy.
