After a month of buildup, may I present...
The Queersar not an award 2020!
10 (+1) great queer SFF novels.
V good year for queer SFF; I found it *really* hard to narrow down to 10. But happy with what's on here & more convinced there *is* a gap in the award landscape for books like these.
Finding a cool new book newsletter, but it’s hosted on Substack. 🥲
listen i love ao3 as much as the next guy but ive seen people quit fic writing over the past few years because people comment and engage with authors way less, and then everyone still freaks out when ao3 goes down- if a fic is irreplaceable to u, let the author know!
BookSky: query from a friend in publishing:
What are some great small presses that do poetry?
Thanks!

One of these days you should do a whole thread of your photos with an SFF book rec that matches the vibe of each one. That would be fun!!!!
I’m going to say The Raven Scholar I fear because all my other suggestions are too old or too deep in a series to work. OH WELL, I have one to terms with being a basic bitch with mainstream tastes 😂
This thread is an attack on me, specifically. ONE????? This is a type of torture I’m pretty sure.
I wanted to know what happened with Tau and Eta and the others so much. A TRAVESTY we'll never get to read their book.
Finished a reread of Ghostdrift by Suzanne Palmer and I’m still convinced we were utterly robbed of at least one more book by the vagaries of publishing. 🥲
good morning! new from me in @strangehorizons.bsky.social today, a review of Alexandra McCollum's Into the Midnight Wood, in which I vent some frustrations with the current state of the cozy romcom fantasy novel
(I liked this one tho!)
This is an excellent review. Who amongst the ranks of reviewers has not sometimes thought "Is this a good book? I don’t know. What even does it mean to be good?" Few of us, however, have the courage to put this thought in a review, and for this (and many other delights) I salute Jenny and SH.
Who's a big fan of @readingtheend.bsky.social? The whole internet, that's who.
Really pleased Jenny is back at SH with this review on a curious romcomantasy (it's her term, don't @ me).
"Is this a good book? I don’t know. What even does it mean to be good?"

Apologies to all my friends on Substack. I'd gritted my teeth and supported you because I love your work. But Substack's partnership with Polymarket is the last straw for me.
If you’ve ever loved and lost cat, this newsletter is full of feelings.
Prefatory material from the novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Titled “Synopsis”, it is a two-page summary of the events of the previous novel, The Fellowship of the Ring
The fact that this sort of thing isn’t the norm in every fantasy novel drives me absolutely batty.
omg. We're soooooooo close! Only $752 to go! Onlyhttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/androidpress/the-cookout-a-speculative-fiction-anthology
7 years ago I just put out the Taco Bell Quarterly in a word document! I made it for free and put it out and no one gave me any push or permission, and if I failed, OH WELL, it's not like it was even real!
I love their work so much. It’s so vibrant and has so much personality.
Hey all, if you are the kind of person who goes to or pays attention to or even, yes, complains about Worldcon (because you care about the state of speculative fiction & its communities), I *implore you* to take ten minutes and submit a program item or two before the deadline. Thread! 1/13
Monopoly moves from media companies over here. 😭
I guess I should start looking around for the others! This is the worst timeline!
I find it fascinating when people cover the same thing with no coordination. Feels like a piece of media is becoming relevant again!
Never before have I been so thrilled I found the complete Star Trek: TNG collection on DVD at a library book sale.
As stated in the intro: we sure do have a lot of (great) Hugo Award podcasts. Where are the dedicated podcasts for the other awards? 👀 I can't voluntell people, but I CAN hint heavily.
People are always like what’s something you miss from the past and one of mine is antitrust laws
Fellow fans of The Witch Roads, you can WRITE BOOKS IN and I think we should. 👀
