Knoxville has had several, but I got to go with Sarge's BBQ. Best Jamaican jerk sauce I've had in this town, and the spicy smashed potatoes with garlic were unmatched

In September, a box of old film reels was donated to the Library's National Audio-Visual Conservation Center. One of them was a nearly 130-year-old, long-lost film by iconic French filmmaker George Méliès. It had not been seen by anyone in likely more than a century. 🧵

"I told you... you ask me a question and after that you have to take a Kalashnikov to stop me!" I think about Eliane & her work often; beyond bedrock for me, but it was hearing her describe her music in the most animated, matter-of-fact way that sticks out; R.I.P.

I can't get over this number: in 2007, there were 360,000 newspaper jobs. Now, there are 80,000. "My local paper sucked!" Sure. What sucks even more? The void. "I get all my news from the Guardian!" No, the Guardian doesn't report on your town council, your school board, local cops.

I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it

You can watch Frederick Wiseman's filmography and see how the bureaucracy and inanity of so many American institutions over the last 60 years led us to where we are today, but you'll also see a lot of people working within those systems trying to help make life better for others

Right, another key thing that historians do is working with important records that have not been digitized.

And the vast majority of the world’s records *have not been digitized* and thus do not exist in any format that LLMs/AI can work with.

I take a lot of photos. The downside is that I reach for my phone a lot, and I have so many photos, they get lost in the morass. The upside is when I cleanse and delete photos I'm reminded of things I forgot about that I thought were so important a few weeks ago. Oddly it's a really good feeling

That era was incredible for finding new music via blogs. I had a host of them bookmarked. Lately I've been revisiting root strata mixes from the early 2010. It's an odd mix of nostalgia and rediscovering music I forgot I ever heard
