The playful, prolific use of hyperlinks in online journalism (eg Slate, Pitchfork) didn’t anticipate link-rot. Now so many articles are pock-marked with cryptic allusions that some long-dead link once explained. Weird how quickly a new style comes to feel more archaic than the traditional format

For context: I'd flown in straight from Thailand, which had 3 separate security checks. 🫠 Sooo, not only do they distrust their Thai counterparts, they also distrust their very own colleagues at a checkpoint right behind them. Worst airport ever.

Typing this with free in-flight wifi! 😀 My opinion of the Philippines has gone down by 60% solely because of the Manila airport. Whyyy did they need 2 security checkpoints only 300' apart? Why make people stand in 3 lines? An absolute nightmare...

It's curious that leaving Thailand requires wayyyy more security checks and barriers than arriving in Thailand. 🙃

Anyway, going offline for 24 hours of almost nonstop flying back to North America. Talk to y'all later, eh.

Farewell, funny undersized $3 Ecuadorian flip-flops. You served me - err, not well, but acceptably. There is no space (or point) to take you with me. 🫡

Not just reporters... When I lived in Seattle, the local government (including mayor) measured every policy proposal in lattes. 🙄 "Oh, it's not a $28 monthly fee, just think of it as 1 extra latte per week, tee-hee!"

...Madam Mayor, some of us drink 5-cent a cup instant coffee out of necessity. 😐

Ditto. :( I've just finished a flash story about supervillains who are horrified by the news, but the latest news has gotten even more horrific since I finished the story. 😭

I’m sorry, but the simulation can’t include deceased individuals you knew personally. It’s in the handbook. Short Fiction | Kim Fu | Issue 14

I've thoroughly enjoyed Kim Fu's short story “Pre-Simulation Consultation XF007867” - written entirely as a dialogue. 🙃 It was equal parts creative and funny. My favourite quote: "I can fuck a dragon, but I can’t see my mom?" 🤣

Feel free to roll your eyes at me, but this is *yet another* example of how much our Earth defense system sucks. (It sucks so very, very much.)

It is an implicit choice by our species to ignore sky surveys and to funnel money to billionaires instead. That is suicidal on the grandest possible scale.

The entire Star Wars saga is an elaborate hallucination as Luke is dying of heatstroke on Tatooine. His daddy issues, his desire to travel, to have a sibling, to make cool new friends... All just a bunch of misfiring dehydrated neurons as he lays dying, as womp rats slowly approach...
