I donβt think Iβll get over the rage I feel that we traded relative prosperity, security, scientific advancement, the possibility of upward mobility, and somewhat functional democracy for the protection of a felon child-rapist. Incandescent, unending rage.
lol shut up loser
The American Library Association strongly denounces new federal book banning legislation proposed in Congress. Call your Reps. Tell them to oppose H.R. 7661. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121 American Library Association, Show Up For Our Libraries
"Parents, not politicians, should guide their childrenβs reading. In our school, campus, and public libraries, materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. Their work is grounded in one clear purpose: helping young people become lifelong readers. H.R. 7661 isnβt fundamentally about protecting kids. Itβs about giving politicians broad authority to restrict whose stories are allowed on the shelves. That should concern anyone who believes in the freedom to read and the right of families to make decisions for themselves.β - ALA President Sam Helmick
"Rather than targeting librarians and teachers, Congress should invest in them. The Right to Read Act offers a better path, supporting well-staffed and well-resourced school libraries, strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, and protecting the dedicated professionals who help young people discover books that open doors and expand horizons. When we trust families, support educators, and protect the freedom to read, our young people thrive.β - ALA President Sam Helmick.

Alysa Liu telling 60 Minutes βI love struggling, it makes me feel aliveβ is a legit revolutionary statement from a Bay Area native in a time when copious amounts of time and resources are being put toward convincing us to opt out of experiencing struggle, friction and self-actualization
βThatβs what Iβm fβing talking about!ββ¨

Honestly, still blubbering. Only 6 more skaters to go and Amber's still in the lead. Is it too late to hire an etsy witch? Or can she pull a Shun Sato and sneak onto the podium?
Not me, blubbering over Amber Glenn.
some of you are looksmaxxing when you need to be booksmaxxing
I'm too sad for Amber Glenn to function for the foreseeable future.
Also: I hate the 0 points for doubling out that required triple. Like, as a rule, it feels so inconsistent with the rest of them.
I am not emotionally ready for the ladies short program tomorrow.
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itβs always a matter of will not resources.
Gonna need people to support middle grade and YA titles bc where do we think adult readers come from!! If kids donβt have good books to read from like 8 - 12 they are going to stop reading ππππ
The men's free skate today was a reminder of why I find sports so fascinating and why I write sports books.
It turns out that even revered competitors are . . . human.
Forget Ilia Malinin for two seconds.
This is Kazakhstan's first Winter Olympic gold medal since Lillehammer 1994, when Vladimir Smirnov won the men's 50km cross-country skiing.
That was 10 years before Mikhail Shaidorov was born.
I can't believe what i just saw. SHAIDAROV GOLD. SHARPIE
Holy shit. Figure skating DRAMA.

I've heard directly from hundreds of children at Dilley. One young girl who shared her story with me grew up in the United States and her stepfather is a U.S. citizen. She said that the guards are mean to her, she is afraid, and that she is worried she will die in detention.

This book has the most scathing dedication by an illustrator I have ever seen (and he is completely right)

If THE LIBRARIANS on PBS Independent Lens airs past your bedtime tonight, donβt worry. You can also stream it via the PBS app and on the PBS Independent Lens YouTube channel starting at noon EST Monday. @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social
That entire Halftime special was a celebration of community, love, music, diversity and Puerto Rico and very deliberate middle finger to colonization and white supremacy.
Please please watch tomorrow night on PBS. Most people have no idea what librarians are dealing with. Some heavy hitters in our field are in this movie. @librarianjones.com @sassylibrarian.bsky.social @becalzada.bsky.social
You're personally invited to watch The Librarians, a new documentary about censorship, libraries, and the fight for the right to read, premiering next week on Independent Lens on PBS.

1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isnβt sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

A good thing happened today: Haitians in Springfield, Ohio and elsewhere are (for now) safe from the planned ethnic cleansing operation. This happened because people came together β organizers, reporters, and those who care β and made it happen. Letβs take the win and continue the work.
In Springfield, Ohio, people are preparing in advance of a βlarge deportationβ promised by the president. To all appearances, the city is 2 or 3 days from a federal ethnic cleansing, grounded in a hate campaign organized by the vice-president and American Nazis.
