Probably a reach here but I'm looking for someone (early career maybe) who would be willing to mentor me as I navigate the post-PhD life. I feel lost on a lot of things and would be grateful to bounce ideas and experiences with someone who's been through a couple of years post-PhD. ๐ญ

The Academic Wheel of Privilege showing the 24 socio-cultural identities. The 24 socio-cultural identity types span six sectors: health and wellbeing, society, culture and communication, gender and sexuality, education and career, living arrangements and lastly childhood and development. These identity types are shown as circles connected to three concentric rings (outer, middle and inner) of โidentityโ circles with increasing privilege as you go towards the centre.
Out now!

This has been many years in the making. We wanted to do it rightโnot simply get it done.
Our goal was to contribute, however modestly, to an academia that genuinely strives for inclusivity.
May the AWoPโsmall as the step may beโhelp move academia toward greater inclusion. ๐ค๐ซ๐๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธโโ๏ธโฟ๐ฆฎ๐

It's been a long journey to this point but very rewarding. Check out the app I built to support it---it was fun working out how to make this static image into something dynamic/interactive (though still room for improvement, especially accessibility). academic-privilege-2177e04480f1.herokuapp.com

Great thread!
As someone who develops training materials and makes infographics, I love the messy middle between initial brain dump and final product.
I personally don't use GenAI tools to fast track this process. I tried it out in the early days out of curiosity and it was a joyless experience.

Me at the beach holding out an ammonite fossil about 7 cm across with septa visible as wavy grey stripes.
Nice septa on show in this ~190 million year old ammonite I found it Whitby, North Yorkshire.

How do we know our research results are REAL? We replicate them! Most folks agree but lament on how hard it is to publish these replications.

I suspect that one of the reasons behind the widespread adoption of generative AI by faculty is that it gives people the illusion that they can still do the things they knew how to do as a postdoc. Gen AI is used as a poor substitute to maintaining core skills.
