I was originally going to dunk on this suburban Chicago letter to the editor opposing Illinois' state-level zoning reforms, but this must surely be parody, right? www.dailyherald.com/20260309/let...
This weekend one of my buddies told me that his birthday is the βcalendar emoji dayβ and tbh if that was my birthday I would never shut up about it
Apparently itβs because Apple premiered iCal at their expo on July 17th in 2002
Bridget Gainer missed nearly 1 in 4 board meetings β the second-worst attendance record among incumbent commissioners.
Cook County deserves elected officials like Drake Warren who will treat their position as their full-time job, not a side gig.

Ngl that was hilarious. But dude, you need help. Please stop blocking the train door and talking about genitalia.
I know CTA/NITA has projects in development, but I hope whatever they deploy comes close to the success of WMATAβs crisis intervention specialist programs.
Wednesday on the purple line, a guy was sprawled out on the floor blocking the door. He was loudly rambling with offensive language.
At one point he started unzipping a large pocket, and visibly concerned people around him moved back.
He laughed: βyou guys thought I had a gun. NOPE. IPHONE 16!β
Weekday-only rail service, schedules, and moving averages for each CTA line

CTA rail service looked much more stable in Feb. Brown line fully out of it's slump.
Have any Purple line frequenters noticed a slight bump in service? The average has been hovering at or above fall levels for a solid 2 months now.
I definitely noticed better headways this week compared to earlier this winter
Whoa - the incumbent that Drake is running against has the second worst attendance record in the current term
Did a quick google search and it looks like there are only a handful of other megacities that are also named after foods:
Bangkok (river village with olives)
Bangalore (town of boiled beans)
Any others?
That is my dream
Should be no surprise that the city literally named after βwild garlicβ is Americaβs top city on this ranking of the top 10 global βfood destinationsβ

Chicago River appreciation post
ββ¦updating fire and building codes regularly and responsibly. In several states, for example, lawmakers are considering proposals that would allow new six-story residential buildings to have a single stairway, bypassing expert reviews through legislative maneuvers.β
Interesting, thanks for explaining! FWIW there is one paragraph where he does mention single stair
Yet in state after state, lawmakers are increasingly framing life-saving codes and standards as obstacles to affordable housing rather than addressing root causes like restrictive zoning and land costs. These changes may seem like minor adjustments, but they circumvent decades of technical analysis and lessons learned from fatal events.
Too often, safety codes are dismissed as potential "red tape" or expensive roadblocks to housing affordability, without understanding that the only reason safety feels automatic today is because past generations insisted on strong protections in the wake of devastating losses.
Not sure if youβve seen this opinion from Jim Pauley (National Fire Protection Association) yet but Iβm curious what your thoughts are?

Ignore whining of lefty transit anarchists. Harden entries leading to collecting more farebox revenue for system fiscal solvency AND reducing system costs for maintenance & repair from vandalism. Bonus: Increase Clipper card applications. Grown-ass transit policies. www.sfgate.com/local/articl...

Happy birthday Chicago!!! No place Iβd rather call home.
We need Ranked Choice Voting in Illinois. I've essentially "threw my vote away" in the Senate race because I early voted for who I wanted and didn't "strategically vote", essentially voting for the opposition
But with RCV, I could've done both and not inadvertently help the worse candidate
Did you see the moonrise???
Breaking news: housing reform is popular, micromanagement is unpopular
Hundreds (likely over 1000) of people at the Montrose concrete beach
Throwback to Friday Morning Swim Club. That was a crazy couple of months.
Look at how many people are in this picture. No wonder the city got scared there were no lifeguards lol
How would you propose to fund it? (assuming that it results in substantial cost savings for every user regardless of whether or not they utilize EE programs)
Bad idea to eliminate the energy efficiency fee. That happened in Ohio with HB6, and most of the energy efficiency programs were mothballed
The programs arenβt perfect (Iβll be the first to admit that after seeing it firsthand) but the ROI is substantial
