Okay so sorry. You guys probably already understood this. But I'm just now realizing that Robin is not doing an interview for the fan club convention. He's doing an interview for VTM television channel. And that interview was shown at the convention.

Good catch!👏👏 I never noticed the words Funky Tomato before. It looks like part of the Graffiti. I still think the literal Japanese translation is more complicated but I don't speak Japanese and it's just a hunch. 🤷

Karen's slide seems to be taken in November 1993... But that same hat without lettering seems taken end of March, 1994 (TOTP). So maybe there was more than one hat as Karen mentioned...? Or that Pet Shop Boys poster was still up well into 1994? And the slide is not Nov 1993?
Yep. Robin says the 1994 tour was canceled due to Barry's (not life threatening) back issue exacerbated by traveling/ performing in 1993. The 1994 tour was cancelled in Feb and TOTP was taped March 30. I think the tape shown at the Sept Holland convention was done in London March 30 or same week. 🤔

Another great tape. Funky Tomato was maybe a Japanese music channel? I think the interview + lip sync of Tokyo Nights is Yokohama. Barry messes up the lip sync and they all take it in stride and smirk a bit. It wasn't their choice to lip sync so it's not like they were found out or anything.
Hiya - As you probably already know, Robin was not at the convention in Holland. My guess is the fan club interview was taped same day or close to Wed, March 30, 1994 (Taping): Top of the Pops. We discussed it and the lettering added to the hat here:

That happened so fast. I wasn't able to watch the whole thing and thought I'd come back to it. so weird! The last show in Sydney was Nov 24, 1989 and the first show in Japan was Nov 28, Kanagawa. So between the 24th and 28th I think they did the Yokohama Talk Show.

There are so many companies doing tape to digital transfer for families. From VHS or Camcorder or Hi-8 or what have you all to hard drive or CD. People don't want to lose their memories. Some companies do it better, cost more, etc. We can all help research when it's time... No rush.
imho there's no rush. You may not want to but it would be worth setting up a collection/letting people donate so an archival company can do the transfer to digital properly. You should not have to pay for it yourself. Apart from that, I have no idea how youtube works but a lot of people do!
Yes! Good thing they did not get thrown out and are in the hands of someone who knows how important they are. In some cases these might be the only tapes that exist - like TWT.
If it's someone taping at home for personal use it's probably broadcast date as that's all they would know. If it's a tape from a studio it could be a logging date, taping date, broadcast date. Depending on their professional in-house cataloging system. Hope you can make them all available someday!
Very fun!! I'm going to guess that the dates on your tapes are broadcast dates. Only because at the time whoever was doing the taping would mostly care about the broadcasts. Being that it was 1987, I'm guessing they cared very little about the actual taping dates and just knew them and didn't care.
