Distribution of coastal blue carbon habitats in Sweden and their exposure to anthropogenic pressure - Ambio Understanding where blue carbon habitats occur and how they are affected by human activity contributes to effective management of natural carbon sinks. Here, we compiled geographical data for Sweden t...

New paper led by Sara Braun published in @ambio-journal.bsky.social. We mapped classic blue carbon habitats (seagrass & salt marshes) as well as emerging (coastal forests & rooted freshwater veg.) across the Swedish coastline. We found that blue carbon habitats cover 35% of the coast. rdcu.be/eS32n

Lack of increase in mercury contamination in coastal Western Australia since European settlement Current knowledge of long-term mercury (Hg) deposition is predominantly based on studies from the Northern Hemisphere, leading to a geographical bias …

New paper out today 🥳. We used a seagrass sediment record to reconstruct more than 3000 years of mercury contamination in Western Australia.

Global seagrass carbon stock variability and emissions from seagrass loss - Nature Communications Johannes Krause et al. synthesized seagrass carbon stock data from 2700+ soil cores to find that they vary by plant functional group and coastal setting, indicating where conservation efforts would mo...

A new global analysis reveals that if we allow seagrass decline to continue unchecked, as much as 1,154 Tg of Carbon Dioxide could be released back into the atmosphere from meadows at risk, accelerating the climate crisis we are trying to prevent.

New paper led by Johannes Krause out in @natcomms.nature.com. Here we assessed global seagrass carbon stocks and with new global median values being 27% lower than previous global estimates. We also estimated CO2 emissions following sesgrass loss. Read more 👉 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
