What I’m getting at here is not merely that victim-blaming is wrong. It’s that it is illogical in the case of antisemitism, which serves various functions in society, and is not in fact best understood as a response to Jews’ own behaviour, observed holistically and impartially. Antisemitism does not rise when The Jews misbehave and dip when we behave ourselves. It is at most a selective, negative response to whatever anyone Jewish has done that one might find objectionable, paired with an endless ability to ignore anything Jews are up to that one might see as positive.
