Today we are putting the spotlight on TIMSS and results from 2023.
The IEA TIMSS is a international assessment every 4 years measuring the math and science achievement of pupils in 4th Class and 2nd Year around the world. The ERC manages TIMSS on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth.
Today we are putting a spotlight on PIRLS and the latest results for Ireland.
The PIRLS assessment that measures reading achievement among primary school pupils, usually those in Fourth Class (around age 9–10).

Today we are celebrating and reflecting on 60 years of the Educational Research Centre.
The test can be used alongside its English-language sister test, PPAD-E, to obtain a rounded picture of a student’s literacy needs. More information on MDLI-G, PPAD-E and other ERC tests can be found at www.tests.erc.ie. #speirghorm

It has been a busy week for Ireland’s #PIRLS2026 team! The National Research Coordinators are in Warsaw while the data team continued to check Field Trial data and prepare for the Main Study in Ireland. We look forward to contacting sampled schools in mid-Sept.

New paper from ERC researchers Lorraine Gilleece and Aidan Clerkin, along with Darragh Flannery (UL) examines the impact of DEIS at post-primary level.
This is the first quasi-experimental evaluation of DEIS.
