So many photos from our ride - the trail ride I decided to ride with Desejo <3 Obligatory "tourist" photos at the overlook of the Monterey Bay. We saw some early blooming rock roses, tons of Scotch Broom, and the "dark chocolate**" plant just starting to bloom. The mushrooms were glowing in the damp, overcast light. Gosh it was chilly and breezy...what we expect in March ;) After our interesting ride (so GLAD I didn't ride Elf-too much energy from Sally and Eddie) Desejo and I hit the arena for some cantering fun. Gosh darn it, he got the correct, elusive left lead first time!!!!! I wish I'd been filming...but maybe my filming would have inerferred and he wouldn't have taken it...Left Lead! HUGE. So, I had to quit and end on that happy note. Good, good, boy, Desejo <3 **the dark chocolate plant has dark brown stems and the blooms look like powdered sugar or white frosting, making me think of dark chocolate cupcakes. Mystic'n'me doing a quick bareback loop on the Pond View Trail...with a view of the pond :) It was cold, breezy, and so overast, it felt like rain, but things are green, lush and so many wild flowers making an appearance. I am so out of shape for bareback rides =----> so, I need to fit in more. I am so out of shape for bareback rides, so, I need to fit in more.

Marchador Monday with Red Elf, the Half-Blood, Gingerbread Prince, moving forward with EPM. After so many memories of the horse he was, and with three successful rides =----> I had a decision to make yesterday...I planned to ride Elf again. Russ invited me on a trail ride...he was riding Eddie, and McCrea on a very hot Sally. They are not compatible trail riding horses for Elf, especially in his current state of rehab...but a chance to do a group trail ride...I chose success for Elf and rode Desejo! GREAT call. After a bareback loop on Mystic, Elf and I rode in the arena. Gosh he felt relaxed and forward. Mega improvement from months ago. Light and fairly straight on the rail ;) We got some good gait/trot impulsion laps, tho he was pushing to go faster. He listened to light cues and we kept at it. He did make one attempt to canter and went into his braced, head down, crow-hoppping, which I quickly/successfully shut down! Good job for the correction, Elf. Hmmmm, do I take that lightness and confidently keep at it, slowly...or is he still tellling me "can't, grandma" Can't canter under saddle yet... Red Elf =----> Oh My Goodness ❤ After years of dealing with what turns out to be EPM (what a nightmare that is) and some treatments in the last few months, Elf and I had two good days, back to back riding. Short, successful rides. Yesterday's ride started with such goodness at the tack room - BIG yawns and releases while saddling. HUGE for a horse who has been almost untouchable for months. With that good omen, we did the Pond View trail. He had lots of GO, so we did lots of soft turning, soft redirection. We are walking, Elf. He needed lots of reassurance. time to process, as he did as a 4 year old, just starting under saddle. I have my own issues to deal with regarding his bucks and bolts =p At nearly 70, I am not able to ride/start a young horse. Before EPM he was a confident, curious, fun horse to ride and explore with. my dream ❤ Yes, I could stick the young horse antics and the zippidity do dah. My back can NOT handle that anymore 🙁 I also didn't expect EPM to reset my King of War Ponies back to a young, fresh, challenging horse to ride. At 9, we shouldv'e been living the "good life" ... but I can't go back. On a good day, I am starting a fresh horse. And those good days are no guarantee - EPM and the leisons never go away. Any day could be an explosion, I am graterful for these good days with my beloved, home-grown Red Elf ❤ My half-blood Gingerbread Prince ❤ And yes, he has a prominant role in By Arrow and Sword...without EPM =----> There the King of the War Ponies lives on in his piss-ant, dominating glory.
