Confirmation bias is def a thing.

When faced with information that runs contrary to our personal view we're more inclined to ignore it and double-down on our beliefs rather than stopping to consider whether or not what we perceive to be the truth IS the actual truth.

It's more prevalent in the right-wing to be sure, but those of us on the left aren't immune to it either.

People become radicalized to the point where they are incapable of even considering a viewpoint or perspective that runs contrary to their own beliefs/experiences/etc.

It's a huge problem.

A good portion of boomers are just completely out of touch with the struggles of the younger generations and refuse to accept the simple fact that society has changed A LOT since they were young.

S'why we need to get the career politicians out of office and start imposing stricter term limits.

The bulk of Dems see the US working class (particularly marginalized people) as unruly children, and are reacting like boomer parents.

They believe they know our lives better then we do, and see us as whiny and ungrateful for not giving them the kudos they think they deserve.

On the rare occasions where Trump says “we” instead of “I” he’s talking about himself and the billionaire bloodthirsty pedophiles. Not you. Never you.

The media doesn't just "not care."

It's actively being controlled by people attempting to spread misinformation to support their own agenda and narratives.

people are aware that america isn't even really a democracy, right?

its a republic. we "elect" a handful of representatives, and those rich, corrupt individuals make all of our decisions for us

we don't vote on anything meaningful, only what they allow us to. that's not a democratic government.

It’s Friday in early Springtime - all morals are suspended.

Americans have turned ignorance into a fucking art.

It's like some of us live in an entirely separate reality where anything that goes against their personal world views may as well not exist, even if it's staring them RIGHT in the face and SCREAMING at them.

I AM angry. But I won't let these emotions rule me. I won't let my anger make me cruel.

I'll channel them and use them to fight back against the overly-entitled few who are making life hell for everyone else.

I'll survive. Just to fucking spite them. Because right now that's about ALL I can do.

So yes. I DO hate my country. Or rather I hate what it's become...and what it's rapidly becoming under our current leadership.

Because I refuse to abandon my empathy for the sake of self-gain and profit. Because I refuse to become an angry monster who's utterly obsessed with power and control.

And we've LET these people get away with it. We've pushed the most psychopathic amongst us to the very top of society where they've used their wealth and power to avoid any negative consequences for their cruelty. We grew complacent watching others suffer so long as we had what we wanted and needed.

Underneath the surface though, our society rewards cruelty.

Because that's how you really get ahead in America. By leveraging whatever power you have and taking advantage of others. By doing ANYTHING, no matter how ruthless, for the sake of profit; especially if you can get away with it.

America only ever pretended to be the land of the free. In truth it's the land of the privileged.

It promised equal opportunity no matter who you were while conveniently ignoring the fact that people born into wealth are offered NUMEROUS advantages that those without vast amounts of wealth lack.

"Work hard and you too will acquire great wealth and success!"

As if these stories of people born into poor families climbing out of poverty were the norm rather than the exception to the rule.

No, reality is much harsher. If you're not born into wealth the odds are already stacked against you.

Admittedly, I DID make some bad decisions along the way. But hustle culture was never the answer. "Picking oneself up by one's bootstraps" was only ever a myth the rich and powerful sold us to try and keep us complacent and in line.

The biggest lie society ever told me was that all I needed to succeed was to keep my nose to the grindstone and work hard.

And yet I've done my best busting my ass for the past 20 years and I'm no better off than when I started. In many ways, I'm WORSE off for my efforts.

Few Americans realize just how badly we're falling behind nearly 200 other nations on pretty much everything but war.

You know those "3rd world shithole countries"? They're all doing better than the U.S. on a lot of things.

Cuz America's convinced it's the greatest country/society ever.

Spoiler: I live here and it's REALLY not. 😑

The problem with treating life like a zero sum game is that some people aren't content with merely taking what they need to survive.

So they'll continue to take advantage of whoever or whatever they can, even at the expense of humanity itself.

Zero sum = death, alas. And we’re paying for it

I agree whole heartedly.

There's nothing wrong with a free market when it comes to luxuries.

But necessities for life such as access to medical care should have never been given to the private sector where they can be sold for profit.

Scarcity is what drives prices up.

The oligarchs realized that modern innovation would reduce scarcity.

So they invented ways to withhold products/amenities from the common population in order to keep prices high.

The only reason some people live in poverty is due to other peoples' greed.
