Like it takes a village to raise a child sort of thing? It takes the right place to be successful?
Thinking about applying for funding again at the moment. The things I find most challenging are that I want to work with so many people! And then which of the ideas! It's like you could get anything funded or nothing funded. So any tips or tricks are welcome.
βοΈ My new email is chloe.brimicombe@spi.ox.ac.uk if I missed you end of last year or if you want to please get in touch βΊοΈ. I am currently working on climate policy and I am enjoying it.
Happy New Year. Quick message to say. I start a new post-doc at the University of Oxford researching climate and child health and policy later in January. I enjoyed working at RMetS. I don't have access to that email so if you want to email me I won't see it there π.
Fire at #COP30 we think it was in the arts and culture pavilion behind the African pavilion. It got worse when it hit the roof. I was down the other end by the green zone.
In case you're wondering just how far corporate lobbyists have gone to get into COP30 to push the idea that AI will solve climate change (and never you mind about all the energy it guzzles)....
@yorkshiretea.bsky.social can you please do a partnership with the UK pavilion at the Climate COP next year? Had to bring my own teabags - would be really cool given the impacts of #climate on tea production.
Great thank you. I've walked past the booth. Are you here?
Made it to #COP30 excited to be helping the pearl @uniofreading.bsky.social with their COPCAS studio and attending events or colleagues and collaborators.
Be great to connect - if you have recommendations please let me know! Also so happy to help with anything.
Was stubbornly optimistic at the BBC's #climatecreatives 2025 with @rgsibg.bsky.social. I learnt so much about storytelling and changing narratives. And that the @nhm.org has a pond! Which I'm interested in for urban cooling research. Met so many interesting people.
π’ Just had the most amazing experience communicating heat and compound hazards impacts on BBC breakfast. Thank you to @richardabetts.bsky.social for suggesting me and everyone at the BBC who were so lovely!

Article about broccoli important to share: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Could start a second bluesky where I just talk about climate impacts on broccoli I guess! π
Thanks to @eciu.net for providing a summary of my independent article! So useful see belowπ
#scicomm #scisky
I didn't list all the impacts on just food.I would direct you to the food security team at the @metoffice.gov.uk they have great resources outlining this: www.metoffice.gov.uk/food-insecur... personally I had a master's student look at climate adaptation for tomatoes last year.
I did an interview with @skynewsrss.bsky.social this morning on the likelihood of the driest and sunniest summer on record. Then I listed impacts - this combo really affects food systems! Beyond summer. Like the potato. Which is important because personally I like food.

Wrote an article this week for the independent, which was a lot of fun and a great opportunity. Key takeaways: really exciting weather pattern, rain mid-UK heatwave. There is a Broccoli shortage it is a temperate plant. More #climateaction! #scicomm #scisky

I was trying to remember when we did it! Amazing to see it out with such important findings.
Aww thank you! π it's so cool to me.
A clip from BBC 5 live ended up on @bbcradio2bot.bsky.social news at 8pm (thanks to @simonleewx.com for the spot). And then my brain clocked with the world service - I told millions of people about heatwaves π . I was a kid who made fake radio shows so a nice overlap moment π.
Contributed a comment and talked through this piece a while back. Great to see it out. Important findings for England mirroring what we see in other countries and raising questions on vulnerability.
I really like writing and helping contribute to work like this.

Busy day talking about all sorts of things. Thank you to BBC 5-live and BBC news for having me talk about heat, drought and wildfires.
I want to mention the below on the BBC world service on water and energy usage of data centers: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Chart showing neighbourhoods in England that are home to more minority-ethnic people are far more likely to face extreme heat. Proportion of neighbourhoods in England with the highest heat hazard scores in each decile of minority-ethnic population. Each bar represents 10% of English neighbourhoods, ranked by their proportion of minority-ethnic inhabitants, from the highest (top bar) to the lowest (bottom bar). The βhighest heat hazard scoresβ equate to the top 10% of total English neighbourhoods that are most likely to experience high temperatures during hot weather. Thunderstorms mid-heatwave - there's this band on the radar in the South West. I don't remember in the UK - like in central Europe common.
@simonleewx.com?

π Heat, Wildfire, Drought - Summer 2025. We've seen the worst wildfire since 1949 this past week in France. I spoke to @skynewsrss.bsky.social about the impacts of individual hazards and combined ahead of the 4th UK heatwave.
My dream is a heat docu series and book π!?

3 years ago today I submitted my PhD thesis. I was lucky at the time I had my dream job lined up. Fast-forward now with lots of flip-flops, I am taking a year out of academia to decide what I want to do, at @rmets.org in a diverse cover. If you have any advice, please share.
I also spoke to BBC radio Wales my best friend is Welsh, I went to university in Wales so I really enjoy talking to them. We spoke about the UK State of the Climate Report and trends in Wales and flooding on the river Severn. #scicomm
Then I was on BBC London this morning was a fun and informative interview. Got asked how I cope in heatwaves π₯΅. I've had heat stress a few times in my life most notable in Haiti. You can hear below from 1hr 18 mins: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
You can see my France 24 interview from over the weekend below. Was really great to talk about compound hazards and #climatechange
