MITOtalks this week
MITOtalks this week
Reminder to join us tomorrow at 12pm ET!
ππΎββοΈ
My New Yearβs resolution is to berate myself less for things I wish I could have done better, to learn from my mistakes, and give myself more credit for the things I did well but promptly forgot/ignored because academics love to live from crisis to crisis
Each of us contributes incrementally to a future we may never see. If it is in our lifetime, if our science, or our contribution, is part of a practical solution, it will likely be one sentence in a vast tome with contributions from thousands of authors across dozens of (not just science) fields.
Every holiday break, Iβm like, βIβm going to catch up on my work and reading papersβ¦β and then every break I just end up sleeping like a hibernating bear.
As you're planning out your ASCB schedule be sure to attend the organelle-focused special interest group hosted by @nieminm.bsky.social and myself Mon. 12/16 at 5pm
Come hear a fantastic lineup of speakers including @walterwchen.bsky.social @themitotracker.bsky.social @lianjiejerrywei.bsky.social
Please join @labfriedman.bsky.social & @nieminm.bsky.social at the Organelle Biogenesis, Turnover, & Quality Control session tonight at 5pm in room 28C if you're interested in cool new mediators that regulate organelles! π I'll be giving a talk here ~5:40pm
If you are at #cellbio2024, please consider coming to the Membrane Contact Sites session tomorrow (12/16) at 5pm in room 29C! Many great talks planned! I will be presenting βKeep Calmin and Carry On: Tethering the ER to F-actin Enables Cell Migrationβ at 6. Hope to see you there!
The #CellBio2024 Exhibit Hall is open! Meet our editors and ask all of your publication-related questions! π¬π See you at Booth #520 π
Never found my school's π¦, so I hope it's ok that I'm posting this myself. I'm presenting my poster today on characterizing internal mediators of mitochondrial fission at 11:15am at poster #B143! If you missed my #MitoTalks last month, please stop by! #CellBio24 #mitofission #microscopy
Incredible! I've also been selected for the Andreas Doncic Travel Award from the cell biology department at UTSW! Congrats to all the winners (most of whom are on my floor & whose work I've followed for most of my PhD)! π€© What a year this has been!
After our #SciArt subgroup at #CellBio2024, join us for a very special Science Art Show & Reception, where you'll get to interact with our amazing speakers and other pioneers in this field. We are honored to feature over 30 scientists/artists in the exhibition! RSVP: beatascienceart.com/artshow2024/
Think mitochondria are networks of cylindrical tubes? not always! Check out poster by @gavsturm.bsky.social "Mitochondrial Pearling: an emerging class of organelle dynamics explained by a biophysical pearling instability" tomorrow Sunday Dec 15 11:45-12:45 B145
Very interested on your take! I see this a lot and hoped I could utilize/connect this to my own project. Hope I can make it tomorrow (also presenting though)!
Happy to announce that I survived the plane ride to San Diego (I'm afraid of heights)! Look at this view π€© Ready for ASCB
Shout out to those of us who feel so overwhelmed & exhausted and yet continue to add, βjust one moreβ thing to life in hopes that it helps!

Excited to announce that I was awarded the Alan Hall Travel Award from @jcellbiol.bsky.social to attend #CellBio2024 this weekend! If you're attending this year, please join me at my poster or my talk (details below) to learn about my story on novel mediators of mitochondrial dynamics!
Congrats Alia! ππ Well deserved!
just saw a post that said "maybe you don't finish your projects because you'd rather have it undone than done imperfectly" and I fear I've been impaled ππͺ¦
This is incredible! Thank you so much for this award! Looking forward to meeting everyone at #CellBio2024
A huge congratulations to the winner of JCB's Alan Hall award, Alia Edington from the Friedman lab at UTSW
And to the winner of our Norton B Gilula award, Justin Krish Williams from the Schekman lab at UC Berkeley!

So proud of Alia Edington @themitotracker.bsky.social for winning the JCB Alan Hall Travel award to attend ASCB! Thank you @jcellbiol.bsky.social for recognizing the hard work of our trainees!
Be sure to check out Alia's talk 5pm Mon. in the organelle subgroup or at poster B143 Sun. 11:15!
