You know SfN will be awesome when you run into old friends and meet new ones before the conference even starts!!
Thank you @bjmarlin.bsky.social @thiagoarzua.com and @stutzman-alexis.bsky.social for stopping by on Friday!

Iβm honored to be named a Junior fellow in the Simons Society of Fellows!
Two important topics for people to learn about (imo) right now are:
1. TransGENIC mice (maybe using the woolly mammoth mouse as an example?)
2. mRNA vaccines
So even though this yearβs BHM feels different than ones of the past, Bianca and the Marlin lab helped me find strength in it anyways. β¨

Iβm have a drive to prove others wrong: DEI does NOT exclude merit. I am an incredible scientist at one of the best Institutes in the world due to my training and merit. Iβm lucky enough to work in a space that sees my identity as something that propels our work from sufficient to spectacular.
It struck me that I havenβt really slowed down to appreciate the statistics I hold as the first Black ___ (at this point, Iβve lost track of all the accolades I can claim) and being reminded that my future eventually becomes part of greater history stirred something inside me.
it just felt like February. That is, until this weekβs lab meeting when Black History Month was acknowledged by my PI, Dr. Bianca Jones Marlin @bjmarlin.bsky.social. She pointed out that as members of the first lab to have a Black PI in our department, all of us are part of Black History.
Today marks the last day of Black History Month and this year was the first in my memory that I havenβt felt like the BHM was embraced by my educational community. Even as a child, February was always a time when we talked about historic figures like Dr. King but this yearβ¦ 1/5
Huge congratulations!!! Thank you for bringing some happiness to my timeline!

Due to practical reasons, I have RNAseq data where batch is conflated with treatment (ie all treated are in one batch, all untreated in another batch). Can I still do pairwise analyses between treated/untreated groups?
Iβd love advice on how to handle this analysis- brownie pts if you have a ref!
