Control of retrotransposon-driven activation of the interferon response by the double-stranded RNA binding protein DGCR8 Abstract. The type I interferon (IFN) response is the main innate immune pathway against viruses in mammals. This pathway must be tightly regulated to prev

Graphical abstract from our new paper in Nucleic Acids Research with @saramaciasrna.bsky.social 🧬

DGCR8 prevents accumulation of endogenous dsRNA derived from Alu elements within mRNAs, avoiding aberrant activation of the interferon response.

How does the piRNA pathway solve the self vs. non-self problem? 🧬

Since piRNAs come from single-stranded RNA, how does the cell choose the right ones? For years, "piRNA clusters" were seen as THE privileged source. But are they really special and earmarked for biogenesis? (1/19)

What Happens After a Child Is Taken Into ICE Custody? Five-year-old Liam Ramos' detention by ICE has sparked questions about the policies underlying the agency's deportation operations.

ICE has detained at least 3,800 kids under the second Trump administration β€” more than 500 of whom were under 5 years old.

Children shouldn't be locked up by our government.

Alex Pretti, wearing a green sweater with his VA badge on.

This is Alex Pretti.

This morning he was murdered by ICE. Six ICE agents held him down and shot him at point blank range. Alex was a nurse and researcher at the VA.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and we stand united in action calling for the abolishment of ICE.

Today, we lost another Minneapolis neighbor after multiple ICE agents pummeled him and shot him to death.

How many more people need to die or get shot before this ends?

President Trump, I am calling on you to put the American people and this American city first and get ICE out.

No one believes this is a coincidence.
