"It wasn't me, it was the mushrooms," Anna reassured herself. A single crocodile tear, wiped away with a crisp, handkerchief. She portrayed a believable mourning widow. Lost in the focus of her charade, she failed to notice the handsome stranger, watching on from the crowd of mourners. Next in line!
"Dad said you would be okay with it," chirped Emily, almost believing what she was saying to be true.
"It's fine," replied Moira, with a smile.
So this was it, Christmas alone. It was the first since the divorce, and Moira desperately hoped Emily hadn't noticed her turn away and wipe a tear.
She was taken aback. From the loud knock she had expected, someone different. But,there he stood. Hair dishevelled, eyes piercing, and that smile, oh that smile! "Hi, I'm Tom," he said. Her cheeks flushed, as she pulled the bottom of her tshirt down to cover her knickers. "Er,Hi" was her shy reply.
