Dear Director Bhattacharya:

I neglected to include a couple of important points in my earlier email.

First, I am glad that you raised the issues about the liver toxicity of acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is an important drug because it is a useful analgesic and antipyretic without the bleeding risks of NSAIDs such as aspirin and naproxen. However, the liver toxicity effects are quite important. It is one of the leading causes of serious acute liver injury in the United States, particularly when taken at high doses. Moreover, it is unusual for a widely used drug in that its mechanism of action is not well established. It is believed to act by inhibiting cyclooxygenase specifically in the brain, but it has not been possible to demonstrate this conclusively.

It's not just #NIH. It's not just #NSF. It's not just #NASA.

The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.

We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.

Judge rules against NIH grant cuts — and calls them discriminatory The decision means that the US biomedical agency has to restore funding to hundreds of research projects, but the government will likely appeal.

A US judge has ordered hundreds of terminated research projects at the US National Institutes of Health to be reinstated, calling the processes that led to their cancellation “bereft of reasoning”.

I just signed the public support letter for these NIH scientists. They are speaking up against a very large political current moving against them, and they need as much vocal support as is possible to garner.

🚨 (Easy) action alert!

Please read and SHARE this open letter to say: "This new EO weaponizes language about science reform, and we do not stand for it."

Especially important for #metascience folks to do so. I'm grateful for @briannosek.bsky.social's and others' leadership as early signatories.

CONGRESS 👏 SETS 👏 BUDGET 👏 LEVELS

Today's news is simply just the President's **request**.

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants

the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever

they aren’t going into universities’ endowments

they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research

Still fuming about that press conference. The way RFK Jr. talks about autism is not just scientifically wrong—it’s deeply offensive.

Calling autistic kids "damaged" or implying they’ve been "lost" or "stolen" doesn’t just spread misinformation—it dehumanizes real people.

Several weeks ago, four of five STEM programs that make up the NIH-funded Deaf Scientists Pipeline in Rochester, NY were cut (the fifth is expected to be cut too). A PhD student made the below infographic to visualize what these cuts mean as a catastrophic generational loss for #Deaf science

Great thread here for jr. faculty navigating the tenure process in "these times." Document all your successes and make sure your chair/PTR committee knows about them too. Show how you are doing what you can to stay research-active.

Scoop: DOGE now controls how grant opportunities get posted across government.

DOGE engineer removed users’ permissions to post to Grants-dot-gov without telling them. Now requests flow thru DOGE-controlled mailbox.

Revoking Congressionally appropriated funds based on political ideology is not just undemocratic, it's illegal. It's a gross misuse of American tax dollars, and it recklessly endangers everyone.

The Cost of the Government’s Attack on Columbia American universities have given the country prosperity and security. The Trump administration’s attack on academic freedom endangers all of that.

This from Princeton's president has been out for a few days. It's a fine statement of what's at risk and a good call for resistance.

Now that I am finished screaming into the void about schooling for kids with disabilities being assigned to RFK: understand what this means.

He’s lumping accommodations into HHS, meaning those needs are now considered medicalized. Different from everyday education.

This is eugenics.
