Not even a metaphor for trying to draw something as you see it and failing. No, I really mean I make the movement for circle and fail to produce a circle.
Ah I call them circle days and triangle days. On circle days I try to draw a circle and circle it be. On triangle days I try to draw a circle and the shape literally fails to be a circle somehow.

So often people use the argument of "there wasn't that much media with gays back when, it's a pandemic now" and the answer to that is not that there's more gay people now, is that this was happening alllll the tiiime. Every single time anyone tried to put anything queer it got blocked by higher ups.

Had a colleague who needed 0 references cause I guess he has a more photographic memory and it was wild watching him just start drawing out of nowhere.
Funnily enough I do manage to visualise photographs I've seen better than just remembering a person. Even of say my mother's face. You?

It's refreshing but still very much black. Has a green logo though!
Unfortunately all this makes me a slow artist. But I use that to make sure I am a careful artist. So I do my research and add meaning to things and have all ky layers named and my files future proofed as much as I can, and very adjustable so I (or a client or director) can change my mind.
After I have a general vibes/movement/layout thumbnail sketch, I set up the construction lines and yeah sorta experiment and look for it. It won't be what I glimpes or even what I sorta hold as a direction. But as long as I get a satisfying vibe out of it I go for it.
And then I start with a bunch of sketches first to find my lines. With my ADHD not all days work, I like to explain it as: some days are circles, and some days I do the same motion for circle but I get a triangle. Obviously a bit of an exaggeration but not far.
Oh I don't mind! I almost always need references (say if I need to draw a beatle or a bike or anything more complex than a kettle). And I always have construction lines cause I can't really hold the space in my head, if that makes sense.
I often jot down details that maybe I saw in the sludge.
So I get both the frustration of never achieving the gorgeous art from the flashes and the frustration of trying to capture the vibes of the sludge when you can't focus on anything long enough to figure out how it works or if it even works. 🫠
I'm somewhere in-between with uncontrollable flashes of visualisation (on the rare occasion when probably some neuron stumbles upon the right enzyme or whatever it needs, I dunno) but most of the time I see...swirling blackish soup? Like reading tea leaves or coffee residue, swirling, moving.
