Killing the free tier while drastically reducing the quality of subtitles and closed captions for dubs is such an arrogant way of doing business.

This is a decision that can only happen when the people who founded the company lost sight of the reason they established this tier / how they themselves started. The whole reason that simulcasting+free ad-supported tiers were innovated in the first place was to deter people from pirating the shows!

So people who do actual work find AI to be useless and executives find it can do their job FOR them. 🤔

After hearing the disgusting, downright offensive AI generated dub Amazon is pushing for shows like Banana Fish and No Game No Life…

If this crap becomes normalized, I’m gonna become a fucking *prolific* fandub VA.

But here’s the thing. The dubbing industry is run by a couple of massive companies, using a relatively small talent pool. They’ve largely abandoned remote talent, post-pandemic.

I’m likely never moving to Texas or California. So I’m probably never going to get that chance anyway.

I was taught early on and my voice acting career that we should avoid fandubs, because it’s a good way to get blacklisted from ever working in anime. That it’s disrespectful to the actors who worked on existing dubs, and it’s a copyright nightmare.

So one of the largest voice acting platforms out there requires that if you have a project that is 18+, it has to go in the NSFW section.

And apparently, if it has ANY sexual content, even if it’s implied/non-explicit, it has to be paid.

On paper, it sounds nice, but in practice, what a headache.
