infuriates me when news reports assign an action/intent/emotion to "Russia" or "China" or "America" [sic], rather than its ruling class, not just because it promotes nationalist, often racist thinking, but because the nation-state is the wrong level of analysis for what's happening.

Cor, sure would feel great right now if we were self-sufficient in renewable energy, and laughing at all the rubes reliant on global oil supplies. We'd have a bit of a swagger in our step today.

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.
This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.
44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
And women with heat pumps, EVs and solar panels. All my neighbours are coming round to ask about going electric.
