Itβs astounding and encouraging that the Met Office put out these long scientific explanations of how our world works. We need more science in the world like this. π

Desalination, water, and war
Attacks on civilian systems, including water systems, must be condemned and punished under the laws of war.
Attacks on civilian water systems must be condemned and punished under the laws of war. We must repudiate such attacks and stop targeting water supplies, water systems, and other critical civilian infrastructure. #Water must never be a target or weapon of war.

Mitch and the team have to deal with a crowd of violent Frenchman who have arrived on the beach. Meanwhile, CJ rushes to the aid of a man who has been struck in the eye with an arrow.
What an unusual time to schedule this one. Or is it?

For security, resilience and climate progress, the clearest need right now is making electricity cheap, says @elpinchbeck.bsky.social at Chatham House. The people in UK govt who nerd out about electricity market design are about to have their time in the sun. Others must take those lessons abroad.

infuriates me when news reports assign an action/intent/emotion to "Russia" or "China" or "America" [sic], rather than its ruling class, not just because it promotes nationalist, often racist thinking, but because the nation-state is the wrong level of analysis for what's happening.

The biggest barrier to climate progress right now isn't the US, says Simon Sharpe at Chatham House, but distraction and disorganisation at national and international level.
Why? Because there are plenty of steps that countries can take in purely national interest that leads to cutting emissions.

Are electric vehicles denting oil demand? Yes.
By how much? 1.5 million barrels of oil a day, according to EV Curve Futurist.
Caveat: These estimates are hard, but the numbers are certainly adding up.

Terracotta statuette of a dog with upright, pricked ears and a fluffy upright tail. He has an oval object - supposedly meat - in his mouth, painted red. Black pigment can still be seen on his ears and the tip of his tail, in addition to some traces of red on his coat.
Every dog owner: βWhatβs that in your mouth?? Omigod, drop it, drop it!β π±
This Greek (Boeotian) terracotta dog appears to have a red piece of, um, meat in its mouth. Iβm sure he earned it (βHey, that dead guy over there wasnβt using this.β)

Cor, sure would feel great right now if we were self-sufficient in renewable energy, and laughing at all the rubes reliant on global oil supplies. We'd have a bit of a swagger in our step today.

Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..
Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.
This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.
44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
