Five Former Treasury Secretaries: Our Democracy Is Under Siege www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...
And ... The stock market is exploding up. Yay us. Asshats.
Quelling my anxiety with reminders that I am me, I am loved, I am resilient, I have a clear moral compass, I am creative, I help others, I've learned to help myself, and the longest human and earth histories remind me that even such moments as this fraught one amount to tiny blips.
2025 Things to remember:
1. Art outlives empires.
2. History eventually reveals acts of goodness.
3. Narrow impact can be deep.
4. Joy defies despair-mongers.
5. Build capacity in others.
Doing a reasonable job not letting the anti-democracy weasels invade my brain. Not perfect, though, and it's tiring.
Folks: please be diligent about not disseminating Ann Telnaes' cartoon in a way that she's not getting the clicks on it (until she says differently). Her IP matters now more than ever.
Make it go viral but make sure she benefits.

No shiner from today's pickleball incident. No relief from Washington about the incoming miserable era. I'm pondering/drafting a mission statement to guide me, because neither despair nor world-saving are options. It must be compelling & a scale by which to measure my decisions. Will report back.
I never understood the draw of Twitter and I have to say, Bluesky baffled me equally. I just don't get it. I'll stay for a while longer, but this just isn't my thing.
I'm treating myself to a full reread of the Armand Gamache books by Louise Penny. Did you know that the poetry cited as if by the character "Ruth" is really Margaret Atwood's? I've got a book of verse coming in the mail.
The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s
This morning's poem.
I decided to stop chasing a thieving contractor and his later-complicit wife. I'd won judgements; not money. They filed for bankruptcy, but would not get off free from mutual- and self-loathing. Enough. Releasing them to consequences of their own making released me from a role I never relished.
I invented a poetry-muse tickling game: cARdS POETICA. Prototype playing in locally until I send it to be printed for sale. Super fun so far!
First Blue Sky post. Also, heading off to my first Indivisible meeting. What we can do is what we must do. In community and with love.
