🚨Happy to share that the third chapter of my thesis was published in PDR. Together with @ewabatyra.bsky.social and Albert Esteve @cedemografia.bsky.social, we explored links between school enrollment and living arrangements of children in sub-Saharan Africa onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
On Wednesday, Renee Macklin Good was fatally shot by a federal ICE agent. Becca Good, her wife, shared the following statement with MPR News.
Excited to finally share my new paper (w/Raphaël Charron-Chénier) out in BJS! Staying Apart for the Kids looks at how older adults consider preserving family wealth in their new relationships. Drawing on my interviews with mid/late-life daters, we show how accumulated wealth shapes dating decisions.
Congratulations Cosmo!!!
In child nutrition research, we talk about the first 1,000 days—from conception through age 2—as an absolutely critical period for child development. Sustained undernutrition in útero and as babies and toddlers has largely irreversible negative health impacts that last a lifetime.
‼️New #Debate out in @vypr.bsky.social! Jesús García-Gómez, Juan Galeano and Albert Esteve discuss how national-level data can obscure important internal diversity, leading to misleading conclusions about demographic patterns 👇🔗https://austriaca.at/?arp=0x0040760c§0x00407608

Who gets the privilege of free time? Across Europe, fathers enjoy more leisure time than mothers, especially in Southern and Eastern countries. New research across 13 countries shows persistent gender gaps in parental leisure. www.demographic-research.org/articles/vol...
Another piece of my PhD thesis is now published in International Migration Review!
How many immigrants get transnationally separated from their children in the migration process, and how does this affect their mental health in the short- and medium- term?

We already know of over 1,000 student visa terminations. The true number is likely significantly higher. Very few have anything to do with pro-Palestinian advocacy. The overwhelming majority seem to be the result of automated terminations for any contact with law enforcement, no matter how minor.

A sneak peek of the Global Living Arrangements Database (GLAD) I'm working on these days. At the rate at which the US is deteriorating, maybe this is the last data we see from this country.
#demography #rstats #data #population #US
Since Reagan, the US has intentionally undercounted homelessness and hidden its structural roots.
So, workers and their kids are sleeping in cars and motels but aren't officially counted as unhoused and are scorned for "bad choices" they're presumed to have made.

The availability of DHS data (and the continuous DHS in Senegal) made this work possible, and I am particularly saddened by the prospect that such data will no longer be collected and made available.
🚨The 2nd chapter of my thesis was just published in Studies in Family Planning! Together with Ewa Batyra and Albert Esteve, we find that counteracting fertility and child mortality dynamics contribute to stable levels of out-fostering in Senegal.

🚨I am happy that the first chapter of my PhD thesis has been published. Together with @juangaleano.bsky.social & Albert Esteve, we use data from the CORESIDENCE database to map national and subnational trends in household size and characteristics across Africa.
