Book cover with a green gradient background for "The OrganismโEnvironment Pairing: A Historical and Philosophical Reappraisal" by Alejandro Fรกbregas-Tejeda (MIT Press, 2026). The book series label โThe Vienna Series in Theoretical Biologyโ appears at the top. The title is set in large, bold lettering using three colors: white (โTheโ and โPairingโ), warm yellow (โOrganismโโ), and bright green (โEnvironmentโ). The subtitle appears below in smaller white text, and the authorโs name is printed at the bottom. In the lower right, a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) rests on clusters of pink milkweed flowers. Behind it, a large pale-green butterfly silhouette fills the background; its outline follows the shape of a red lacewing butterfly (Cethosia biblis). The layered butterflies visually echo the bookโs central idea of an organismโenvironment pairing.
What a joy to finally share the cover of The OrganismโEnvironment Pairing (@mitpress.bsky.social)! The ๐ will be out on May 12 ๐! I look forward to the conversations it sparks among scientists, philosophers & historians! mitpress.mit.edu/978026205282... #evosky #histsci #philsci #philsky #booksky ๐ฑ๐

A screenshot of the article title: Reframing oxytocin as a behavioral flexibility hormone
Scientific claims in biobehavioral oxytocin research are dependent on a โderivation chainโ. Theoretical models are the beginning of this chain, which are dependent on a theoretical core supported by auxiliary hypotheses. Efforts to improve biobehavioral oxytocin research have tended to focus on auxiliary hypotheses related to experimental models (e.g., improving oxytocin delivery to the brain, polygenic approaches for genetics studies), and statistical auxiliary hypothesis (e.g., appropriate sample sizes for research). However, even if these issues are addressed, a poorly specified theoretical core (and associated auxiliary hypothesis) can lead to unreliable scientific claims
Oxytocin is typically described as a "social" hormone. In our new article, we propose that it should instead be viewed a hormone that modulates behavioral flexibility

Neural representations of tasks change over time, even in the absence of changes in task performance. But neurons change tuning at different rates. How does a neuron's stability relate to its interactions with the population?

The gut-brain vagal axis governs mesolimbic dopamine dynamics and reward events
Gut-brain vagal signals gate dopamine ensembles, reshaping reward and motivation beyond a brain-centric view.
"These findings challenge the traditional brain-centric view of reward processing, supporting a more integrated model in which vagus-mediated interoceptive signals intrinsically shape motivation and reinforcement."
