Black bird with white wing markings high about desert cliffs
It took 800 miles of driving over two days, but we finally found California condors in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument this afternoon. They were about five miles off, soaring high above the cliffs, so I don't have photographs beyond proof-of-sighting, but I'm still high on the sighting.

Trump Targets Major Trading Partners With New Investigation
With a possible exception or two, these investigations and their preordained outcomes are almost certainly BS. Our allies and trading partners have grown weary of Trump's BS, and US businesses and consumers are unquestionably weary of paying inappropriate tariffs.

We can write essays on artists doing this kinda thing now and how they did it for their own benefit when they deemed that it was no longer necessary to capitalize/profit off of minorities they secretly harbored such distain for. Especially when they can run back to the bigots for shelter

I'd say they were most likely always that way to begin with but it's very telling to me still and that's why I do remain skeptical of just accepting anybody as a cool artist friend.
I need safety and care to be proven, not just via words.

It's gotta be a canon event or something that *some* yt artists are now coming out as bigoted, homophobic, and suddenly a "child of God"....
Not that I followed any of them (which there are a few too many) but I feel like the further I look back at their work there's that "I could tell" moment.

Sen. John Cornyn flips on the filibuster to pass SAVE America Act as Trump weighs endorsement
Cornyn, who spent years defending the filibuster, is locked in a competitive GOP runoff in Texas against Ken Paxton, who has aligned with Trump on the issue.
Oh. Cornyn wrote an op-Ed titled, "Why the SAVE Act matters more than the filibusterβ did he!?
I can sum it up for him! Cornyn flip flopped because heβs a little pussy (cat) afraid to lose his seat to a tRvmp endorsement of Paxton! π
Keep the pressure on the Senateβ¦

How falling battery costs are igniting race for round-the-clock solar power
Outside Abu Dhabi, a vast area of desert is being carpeted with solar panels.
Make sure your loved ones aren't operating on out of date priors about intermittent renewables: tell them batteries are now an economical supplement generating full time dispatchable power from them.

First Sinema, Fetterman, platner. If Platner wins (i hope not), he will probably decline the Dem nom like Bernie. If that happens, may Mills run as the Dem.

Definitely don't be worried about this unless we get news that the president is secretly constructing a massive bunker under the White House that he could live in long-term and govern America from while literally "covering up" this gambit with a ballroom no one anywhere asked for

Bondi Is Said to Move to Military Housing Because of Threats
Nothing to see hereβjust the Trump administration officials who'd oversee an invocation of the Insurrection Act and subsequent martial law declarations moving into military-base housing.
Miller, Bondi, Rubio, Hegseth, the Secretary of the Army and Secretary of the Navy...
Pay no attention to this.

I'm not saying this will happen. Republicans will flip some seats, turnout in special elections is very different from general elections, etc etc etc.
I'm just saying that this is what it would *theoretically* look like if the midterms *were to* mirror VA/NJ'25 + Specials 25/26 so far.

Now, NATIONALLY there's 7,386 state legislative seats + 535 U.S. House/Senate seats, or 7,921 total.
Republicans currently hold 4,281 of those (54.0%)
Perhaps ~6,000 will be on the ballot this year, of which Republicans hold ~3,240.
If Democrats were to flip 23.5% of them that'd be ~760 seats. π

Here's a little #Hopium (as @simonwdc.bsky.social would put it):
Since Nov. 2024 there've been 274 special elections for U.S. House/State Legislature.
Of those, 119 were held by Republicans, of which Democrats have flipped 28 (23.5%) via @the-downballot.com.
Republicans have flipped...zero. 1/
