you're so inspirational rhena
you're so inspirational rhena
in english it is called the knee cunt
they're calling it, the year of the woman...
actually, that panerai is just flat out a pretty watch
these are horrific, i love them
this is my first film from the repΓΊblica de guinea ecuatorial! there may be more in my future... but for now,
let's add it to the map!!
the director here appears to be one of the only directors the country has, at least as far as letterboxd is aware of
but they showed some dexterity in this film, i'd be interested to see how they develop as a film maker perhaps when i return to the country

marΓa adΓ‘ (2012) dir. rubΓ©n monsuy ndong andeme [repΓΊblica de guinea ecuatorial]
the acting is amateurish, and the plot nonsensical but, they're clearly having a great deal of fun, and there is a lot of heart in this film,
the direction shows real promise
this feels like the kind of video you make when you are deeply coping about your fear of war
mafricarch 2026 film 6
timbuktu (2014) dir. abderrahmane sissako [mali]
a truly beautiful film, covering a truly beautiful city, timbuktu, which seems like a true melting pot, in terms of languages alone, we have five in this film
unfortunately daesh has conquered the city, and has some plans
thank you :)
there's some propane on the roof of the manor if memory serves...
is this... sapienza?
unfortunately, because it is so determined to portray daesh as hypocrites, and have them lose every argument they have with the cities imam, one does not really get a sense of what sustains and propagates their ideology, beyond a desire for sexual domination of women
daesh wishes to impose their interpretation of shari'a law on the community
this is not a simple process, to a man the jihadis themselves cannot abide by their own rules, and they struggle with how to approach edge cases (what if the youths playing football are not using a football etc.)

The asymmetry of the value placed on human life is so striking. Israel has a goal to recover 40-year-old remains; to do so, it invades a sovereign country, and the lives of 26 Lebanese are an afterthought. Their names not even worth printing in the New York Times.

mbi na mo (2018) dir. rafiki fariala - central african republic
a tale of a teenage pregnancy, and the trials and tribulations of the young couple, we see their foibles, but we also see the love they have for one another/ their child

i'm always particularly excited when i find a banger film from a country whose film industry is really small or underdeveloped
those are the voices it is the most important to uplift
i fucking love cinema
i love that this is an art form that exists everywhere on the planet,
i thought i locked down access to that island after i realised i was ace/aro...
how did you get ashore... there were meant to be crocodiles... π§
this is my first film (not the last, the director was good, i want to see their feature film debut as i understand that's quite highly regarded) from the rΓ©publique centrafricaine!!
let's add it to the map!!
it's a well put together movie too
does not have the enthusiastic amateur vibes of say, the film i watched yesterday
this is very much cinema veritΓ© vibes
i'm pretty sure emΓ©lie is genuinely pregnant, and that her partner genuinely injured himself at some point, hence the injuries he has in the film,

touki bouki - 32,000, i grant this is a famous and popular film
beles - 164
prisoner and jailer - 99
mina kiΓ‘ - 39
i might be the only person on this fucking planet that has watched all four of these films
pentiment :)
