Don DeLillo wrote that “all plots tend to move deathward” and wars tend to move towards quagmires. That is why in most cases they are a really bad idea even for the side that thinks it will be victorious. Probably moreso.

It’s always illustrative to see what these guys say society should just tolerate as part of realpolitik(e.g. the senseless murder of an entire elementary school in an illegal war) and what they think we must resist at all costs (e.g. a Barbie movie where some of the characters are people of color).
Feel like in any other context “murderer shows up to victim’s funeral” would be considered taunting or gloating not “honoring”
feel like one of the main reasons you make a case for war to the public before you start one rather than the Trump approach of just saying "fuck you, I can do what I want" is that when you need to turn around and demand Americans "sacrifice" for that war, it feels like it was a collective decision.

had a death in the family and was almost completely off the internet for a few days & my observation is that there is too much happening too fast such that basic facts abt the world are difficult to ascertain unless you are mainlining info all the time & doing that seems to drive people insane
Not sure what’s funniest here. The fact that they clearly thought they were writing something as elegant and important as Eisenhower’s “Great Crusade” D-Day letter, the little tumblr affirmations at the bottom that seem generated by AI, or the fact that it was written by the son of DB Cooper
I’m thinking of how Hitler urged boys to wage guerrilla warfare even as all hope of victory had been lost, and how Robert E Lee continued to fight battles after privately conceding that the war was doomed. These arrogant, maniacal men have no qualms with sending people to meaningless slaughter.
This is not it. You don’t have to support an illegal war just because you don’t like the guys it’s launched again. If Trump thought he had a valid case, he should have gone through the legal and constitutional channels. He didn’t. And you’re saying you support his illegality. Disgusting.

They’re not public servants, they’re not political leaders, they’re not even aristocrats - they’re thieves. They thought the rules had all been abolished so they grabbed everything in sight.
This might not be as explicit as shooting a woman in the face but this is still blatantly murder. And uniquely cruel.
Every time voters hand a legislative majority to Republicans, they wind up wielding it irresponsibly. Every time. They get the keys to the kingdom and immediately stupidity, cruelty, and corruption follow. What does that say about the party?

I think it’s interesting (and a bit concerning) that while young people seem to be learning a bitter lesson about Trump, there has been no backlash against the influencers who led them to him in the first place. They’re doing fine! Still rich! Still popular! Still trusted!
It's galling to contemplate but I really think you have to admit that Musk buying X was an unqualified victory. It can't be exaggerated just how much prominent journalists, pundits, business type, etc. mistake the vibe on X for "how the country is feeling."
It can be done, but it takes major renovations and very specific types of warehouses. If you think ICE is going to spend the money to convert these buildings into West Oakland style luxury lofts for their prison camps I’m not sure what to tell you.
