Five stoneware figurines on a wooden table. They are medium dark and are two human faces, one generic mammal, one creature who looks a bit like a Batman goblin and one warty toad.
New things from the kiln! (Photo by my mom)
I had looked forward to painting these but once the mystery clay mix was done cooking they just look too good to fiddle with. So I'll wait a while and see how I feel about it.

Mixing water into the clay til my hand almost hurts. Trying to start sculpting for hours. Clay now too dry. Mixing water into the clay til my hand almost hurts.
Thanks! It was very much one of those "trust the process" kinds of sculpts, but once the teeth were in it was worth it!
A clay figure, still wet, with a toothy grin. Hand for scale in the picture.
The same clay figure, here showing it's textured back.
Looking forward to painting those teeth. Almost scrapped this one until those teeth started taking shape.
"Wildflowers" is number one on Trending and honestly that's kind of nice.
I hope it really does mean just that though. Otherwise I'll pretend that it does anyway.
Honestly not a bad concept for a zombie movie.
Recently listened through ~24 hours of Yale lectures in a course about Don Quixote. I wonder if I am prepared to read the book now.
A small unfired clay sculpture of a head, one half of the face normal and the other just stripes. There are other clay sculptures in the background.
Meep moop. Clay stuff.

Ugh, yeah losing things is one of the most frustrating things I know. It's something about the powerlessness of realizing something is just gone.
The reason why I tried to photo it was because I was considering just destroying the unfinished part. Like, making holes in it or something. Though, maybe I'll just turn it into some sci-fi mutant like thing instead. Hm.
A photo of an unfinished clay head on a white desk, with very light shadows as if the contrast was turned down.
Photos are weird. The shadows are so light here for some reason and the face looks so different. Taking photos of things is hard.
But it's kind of cool how the unfinished side of the face makes it look more like a drawing, without details in the shaded parts.
My next book will be my 10th published book (16th if you count the six I unpublished because my writing got better)! Which is a lot when you consider I didn't ever imagine trying to write anything for the majority of my life. Which is to say, try stuff... you never know!
Happy Friday the 13th to all who celebrate.
Fourteen different doll faces made out of stoneware clay laying on a desk.
Could be time to paint some of them, like, soonish.
A greenware stoneware clay figure, humanoid but with a mouth going all across the head and with holes between the ribs. A hand for scale is in the photo as well.
Not sure if I like this one or not. But I have decided that if I work on something for a few hours I might as well just fire it. It's not a large amount of clay anyway so doesn't really cost me.
A hand holding a doll's face. The face is gritting it's teeth. Behind, on the desk, lays more dolls faces and other clay stuff in similar size.
GRRR
Small clay objects on a desk. They are shaped like animal skulls and human faces.
Doing a bit of a "cabinet of curiosities" aesthetic, but where I make all the stuff myself. One day I have to get (or make) a proper cabinet to store things in.

When you feel like you need a break from the clay thingy you're sculpting but the clay dries out fast so if you take a break it'll be too dry.
An unfired clay figure, the torso and head of a skeleton-like person. The clay has not fully dried yet.
Greenware clay skeleton person. Has since this photo dried fully and is now waiting on a shelf by the kiln.

Same for me.
And a couple more faces! This time I tried adding facial hair to one of them.
Thanks! Felt like most faces I make have quite neutral expressions so I wanted to work with some variety!
A repost...
'Cat Burglar' ~ Wooden spoon carved in Maple wood with waxed linen and rhinestones.
Three clay faces on a desk, a hand holding up two of them slightly.
Together with a hand to better show scale.
Four unfired doll faces, made in white stoneware clay, laying on brown paper. They have different facial expressions, three of them being more realistic human faces and one more stylized.
Making faces!

One thing about working with clay is you'll be aware of how quickly your nails are growing.
I'm mega stuck. If I could take this stuck and turn it into a glue it would be the best glue.
Same, actually! And yea, it's definitely a good thing. How to fall more safely should be taught in school. I still usually still call it a somersault though, I think. I haven't thought about it.
