Need to tape a sign to my shirt that says men "protecting" women is just patriarchy and walk around with it everywhere
i can play "Killing in the Name" on bass
Posting a photo to Facebook so I can get a hit of that unique and unnerving sort of gender euphoria that can only come from my aunts and my mother's friends excitedly commenting about how much I look just like my mother.
itβs a kind of cheese that is cut into small pieces, cooked, and eaten fresh (instead of pressing & aging it)
i migrated to a more general hobbyist instance, which was better, but it still felt like seeing a whole social network through the lens of a single subreddit. and when i learned that a handle change would require ANOTHER migration, i just gave up
yeah! i ran into this when i joined an instance with a bunch of discord friends & quickly learned that the admin used a very tight whitelist that blocked most of my other contacts
if your service doesn't allow handle changes without breaking account continuity, you are causing grief for every user who goes through an identity change. it's systemic hostility toward most women and all trans people
- usability sucks, especially cross-instance
- moderation is arbitrary & subject to feuds
- migration sucks
i gave up on it for good once i realized that "migrate to a new account" is the only way to change your handle
ty Ray! π€
to be fair, Poe's Law might apply here
how do you feel about the Ataris version?

reportedly, Petty thought it sounded too "jazzy" for the Heartbreakers, hehe
Henley wrote & sang the lyrics, but the rest of the song is Campbell's
ooh that song has an interesting story! Mike Campbell wrote it. he's the guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Petty didn't like the song for the album they were working on, so Campbell demoed it for Henley & it became The Boys of Summer
Women are supposed to disappear after 30.
Sophia Chang does an excellent job explaining why style matters as we age.
βYou may not like what you see, but you *will* see me, motherfucker.β
ooh that's good, because i came here specifically to compliment your eye makeup β€οΈ love those lashes especially
yes! "we're not responsible" is exactly the problem i called out in this mini-rant a few days ago
Screenshot of my profile page with the ellipses on the top right and a blue dot on the top right corner of that
Ok if you want to make this fucking dot go away you have to enter this menu and then physically click Go Live even if you donβt currently intend to and never fucking intend to Go Live
the author is not serious. Clickhole is a parody of sites like BuzzFeed. the whole point is to make fun of shallow media analysis
it's ok. there is no personal quota for horror, no way to share the burden fairly. unfortunately the guilt and shame you're feeling is a normal part of grief. you didn't deserve this, and what you're feeling about it is very normal and human β€οΈ
i had many doubts, but the thing that fully dislodged my faith was going through an amicable divorce, knowing that it was right, and realizing that this "sin" was just another example of patriarchal bullshit
Carmen Sandiego from the 90s cartoon
Happy International Women's Day to the original International Woman
thank you! π₯°π€
TIL the previous monarch of the Netherlands is also named Beatrix Wilhelmina
for a while i tried out Rhiannon instead of Wilhelmina, because i love the name and the song and always wanted to name a girl that. but it wasn't me. i might need to write a story about a Rhiannon, though
it's funny, when @fredlet.bsky.social asked me what i might change my name to, i gave it all of five minutes thought, and it went like this:
- i wanna keep my initials
- do i have any favorites?
- Trixie Belden's full name starts with a B
- Mina Harker's full name starts with a W
- done!
yeah, when i first moved here, the Winchester Mystery House tour was one of my favorite touristy things to do. that's partly because i genuinely like it, but also because most of the good tourist spots are up in the City or down by Santa Cruz & Monterey
oh hey that's in my backyard!
not literally, but CLOSE
i'm named for my favorite gal investigators
Beatrix "Trixie" Belden, kid detective
Wilhelmina "Mina" Murray Harker, vampire hunter
