2025 favorite works! This year I didn't have a specific animation goal but I got to animate a lot of really cool characters and VTubers!

True, I think most players can't articulate what is actually wrong with the story. It just feels off, so goofy npc voiceacting and awkward lines just take all the heat, instead of the broader issues.

If nothing else, it has given us brilliant multi hour youtube videos on the topic xD

From all the discourse regarding the topic, I've seldom heard people complain about dialog writing styles, but how the quests fit into the larger narrative. Like how Winterhold questline in skyrim is at the same time about forces bending reality and utter incompetence of everyone involved.

You are correct that you can't apply the same writing mentality that applies to less sandbox-openworldy games, but bethesda has shown they are perfectly capable of making stories that leverage the freedom they promise with their games, if they put in the work and coordinate, which they stopped doing

The issue most people have is that there is potential for there to be more stories like this that leverage the world, lore, interesting characters and player reactivity. The plot is rarely the main draw of these quests, it's how they actually fit in the world as a whole, reinforcing the fantasy.

It's funny you speak of this as if there is no parts of Bethesda games people almost unanimously agree are well written. Be it one off quests like Whodunit? in Oblivion, Dark Brotherhood quests in Skyrim, or most Telvanni adjecent quests in Morrowind.

Watching an artist keep at it for a while lets you get used to their taste too, and better understand what they are about underneath all the layers.

Art can reveal more about the artist than they know themselves.

A kind heart, a troubled soul, a lonely spirit or a toxic beast. It shows.
