Surveillance Capitalism at work
Whoever came up with this idea I'm sure can be very proud of themselves. Otherwise geez, I wonder if there's any caps for pricing so readers aren't so furious they drop subscriptions in droves.

Surveillance Capitalism at work

So many questions but finally
- How are patient-provider relationships impacted post C-section court mandates in the postpartum visits? I wonder how would one take guidance from the same person who overrode your preference during an extremely vulnerable time such as pregnancy.
- How do the courts involved share data to the hospital and who analyzes said data to suggest that court-mandated C-sections significantly improve the quality of the labor for the mom and quality of life for the baby?
-Do women who leave hospitals not wanting a C-section receive charges?
Will be learning more on this for other perspectives as I'm curious about other questions like (1/3)
- Is practiced in other states or countries and what's their procedure before getting to court-mandates?
- Who benefits from deeming pregnant women as mentally incompetent for health decisions?
While I'm sure convincing of C-sections in high-risk pregnancies requires tact and urgency, treating moms autonomy secondary to the life they will bring and provide for is disgraceful to me. Further straining peoples' trust in the healthcare system.
The authority of scientists and public health professionals is threatened with these inconsiderate and paternalistic actions. I'm imagining the stress added from this process during labor contractions!! Having to abide by the court expectations of presentation while your having contractions is crazy
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists deems this to be βethically impermissible" yet women during labor are facing sudden 3 hour long court hearings without advocates or lawyers.
Very disconcerting read...(1/7)
Never knew about court-ordered C-sections and to read that even back to the 90s in Florida, hospitals contact judges who mandate authorities retrieve women who leave to find providers that respect their preferences for no C-section. Woah...

Since 2020 in high school, I felt we'd get to a point where community and social skills would be sold back to us. That the impact of social isolation would be large enough that communication norms would need to be re-established.
But wow the solutions are taking many forms so quickly

Fueled my hope of a gen z podium this season ππΎ. Happy for them both. A shame Lindblad couldn't be in the mix like I'm sure he wanted to be.
In this article, I trace some of the reasons going cold turkey analogue or digital detoxing is hard. I also discuss as a Gen Z'er who went through an "analogue childhood" and now "digital adulthood", how I'm moving to rediscover free time screen-free.

Thank you for speaking out Jenna! As recent grad in public health, I find advocacy is implied more for the communities we serve rather than for the integrity of our practice.
I think it's healthy to have professionals publicly call a spade a spade. Our field needs that value backing.
