Gotta have cooking wine!
@tammylc
Booze and cocktail history nerd. I host the My Tiny Bottles podcast & YouTube series (mytinybottles.com), and teach cocktail classes online and in-person as Tammy's Tastings (tammystastings.com). Also a SMOF, so may occasionally post about SF conrunning.
Gotta have cooking wine!
Nice! I was born in '72 which was a dreadful year for wine, but we opened 1972 Armagnac for the 50th.
Would you rather be perceived as likable or competent?
Would you rather be βshrillβ but finish your sentence or polite but interrupted by your male colleague?
Would you rather shoot literal botulism into your face or look your real age, you hag?
It was a very tasty $11 Caipirinha.
Nothing from my 2000s class cause that's all about the early days of the craft cocktail movement, and there's nothing like that on here
2010s - Negroni, Aperol Spritz, Gintonic
1970s - Godfather, Tequila Sunrise (note that this class series is not necessarily about when drinks were invented, but ones that are emblematic of a decade for some reason)
1980s - Sex on a Beach, B-52
1990s - Bloody Mary (Caesar here cause it's Canada), Margarita
That's only $11 in USD
Yup. This is a Brazilian place in Toronto.
I don't know if I've ever seen a cocktail with so many drinks that I included in my 1970s-2010s Drinking the Decades online class series.
Yeah, I get that. I started learning a lot about it because of My Tiny Bottles, as Grandma had a lot of it in her collection. And now that I'm living in Toronto I started a whiskey tasting club so I can learn more. It's as (almost?) as diverse as Scotch, but much less structured/categorizable.
Indeed. But not all new oak like an American whiskey, so very different flavor profile than a 22 year old bourbon would be. Like Scotch, Canadian can have very old expressions without being too woody.
This Wiser's 22 was a delicious whisky. Busted out the Angel's Envy to compare since they're both port finished, but with the Wiser's being cask strength (but super smooth) the Angel's Envy felt watered down by comparison.
FWIW I was in Montreal right around the time of our big snow storm. They had much less snow than we did, but the sidewalk clearing was awful - every sidewalk, even in commercial districts had an inch or two of slush on it and was really awful to walk on. No attempt to get to pavement.
But... Why?
Yep, for years living as a Canadian in the US I pointed to the mottos as evidence of deep underlying differences in perspective.
It's amazing people will claim "Canada and the USA have the same culture" and then on something as fundamental as "do you trust your fellow citizens to be good" we are further apart than any other two countries
This is bonkers, and totally irresponsible. 10-16 oz of whiskey per person PLUS 2 cocktails? WTAF?
I've been to Sunken Harbor, it was great! Clover Club too, of course. Bar at Gage and Tollner is on my list, but I've never been to Long Island Bar and it's actually closest to our dinner restaurant.
I've added it to my list, so if we don't make it this time there's always next time!
Alas, Google maps says Leyenda is permanently closed. Thanks for the thumbs up on Long Island Bar!
Hey NYC folks - recommendations for a good spot in downtown Brooklyn or Cobble Hill to get a cocktail before dinner on Wednesday? Thinking about Long Island Bar, thoughts or suggestions?
No shade to the Swifties out there, but I had to listen to two solid hours of Taylor Swift on shuffle at the nail salon this afternoon and I was barely keeping my eyes open by the end.
That's an awesome glass!
Thank god I didn't put only two kumquats next to that cucumber or this picture might have been flagged by the modesty censors.
I just spent a very intense 12 hours staring at Zoom, Slack, and Whatsapp screens while helping to run the online half of a conference. I have to do it again tomorrow. My brain is mush. I have now had girl dinner and a Black Manhattan and am officially completely useless.
I get it, but I assume that's to offset the gas taxes you're not paying, and which help maintain the roads you're still driving on. So some upcharge seems reasonable, and the benefits of lower pollution don't generate income (directly) that can be captured for that purpose.
The media itself has worked hard to blur those lines over the last couple decades. There's not enough news to fill a 24 hour cable news network, so they fill it with opinion that's treated like news.
Lamb burger with homemade tzatziki and arugula + roasted broccoli with a red pepper feta spread we impulse bought at the store.
