Song Sung Blue (2025) | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA SONG SUNG BLUE (2025) is a feel good (but also sad) movie about the power of music, based on a 2008 documentary I hadn’t heard of about a Neil Diamond tribute

I'm a sucker for stories about niche, small-timer artists doing it for the love of the game (no one knows why), so I liked Craig Brewer's SONG SUNG BLUE. Also I'm happy to report that Kate Hudson deserved that best actress nomination.

Lisa Frankenstein | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA I'm a fan of the Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody. I enjoyed JUNO and TULLY and her directorial debut PARADISE, but it was YOUNG ADULT and its

I know this one wasn't that long ago, but I would like another.

I'm just one lowly person but I really took them for granted as a staple store since the '90s, I was getting regular shipments from them through the pandemic, but haven't spent a cent since the DEI rollback and I know there are many like me. I doubt they can make that up in KKK cross promotions

Target haven't done jack shit to redeem themselves for rolling over to fascists, whoever they're talking about here had nothing to do with my choice to boycott, fuck you Axios you bootlicking bitches.

Manborg | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA As a fan of writer/director Steven Kostanski’s last three movies, PSYCHO GOREMAN, FRANKIE FREAKO and DEATHSTALKER, I decided it was time to check out one of

Having enjoyed Steven Kostanski's movies since PSYCHO GOREMAN I finally went back and watched his feature debut MANBORG (2011), a visual FX extravaganza made in his parents' garage.

Yeah, Milius wrote a King Conan long ago, Verhoeven separately had the Crusades movie.

Protector | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA Last week when I went to see BLADES OF THE GUARDIANS: WIND RISES IN THE DESERT I saw some exciting trailers, including one for a kidnapped daughter action

PROTECTOR is ridiculous even by the standards of kidnapped daughter action movies, but Milla Jovovich is so good she still comes out looking pretty cool in the end.

I believe you're thinking of a monster mash.

And not everyone means it this way but I especially hate it when they're saying it's "more than a horror movie," as if after a certain level of quality or thoughtfulness it ceases being horror.

09.03.2026 14:15 πŸ‘ 55 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 5 πŸ“Œ 0

I'm still annoyed by "is SINNERS a horror movie?" discourse. Many horror movies are *about* something. Many horror movies take a while to reveal they're horror movies. Many horror movies also dip into other genres. It's about trying not to get bit by vampires. Of course it's a fucking horror movie.

I'm just saying I'm not ready to believe in the Academy giving it to a straight up horror movie. It felt possible after the SAG Awards, but I don't know.

Riggs is supposed to be the crazy one but at the start of Lethal Weapon 1, Murtaugh is shown having a morning bath on a workday. That is absolutely insane behaviour

I watched SINNERS again and it's still great but I can no longer picture it winning best picture now that I remember it has parts where people are fighting vampires while electric guitars go 'jhung jhung jhung.'

A handful of Republicans in Congress & Supreme Court can end this nightmare any time they choose, and history will remember them as saviors of the republic, no matter what terrible things they did to US in last 10 years: insane we cannot find a few volunteers for this plum deal!

The script really seems like one of those regional vanity action movies of the '80s and '90s, but done with professional actors.
