Even with austerity, everything subsidised in England was re-nationalised in Scotland, same with a few things in Wales, and NI.
(Except stuff the Labour government re-privitised in the first few years of the NHS).

Only reason why we still have it, is if they get rid of the NHS there'd likely be revolution.

The post-War period of the 20s/30s was probably their last chance.
Maybe the 50s but non-essential commodities had became widely avaliable by then.

Medicare4All would likely have been much more successful pre-Reagan, but the Americans are wanting to build a welfare state from scratch in the post-NeoLiberal world, a task which is nearly, if not impossible.
