These are always excellent talks and well-worth attending!

Taking aim at the figure of Robin Hood to consider what life was really like during the middle ages, what lessons we can learn from an outlaw hero, and how we reinterpret our legends through the centuries.
These are always excellent talks and well-worth attending!
Before YouTube, Netflix, etc. Gen X & Millennial kids grew up with a small number of films on VHS that we watched so often the tape would ware thin.
These were the movies that helped define our personalities.
For me it was Errol Flynn swashbucklers & The Flight of Dragons recorded off the TV.
Cylindrical glass beads in bright shades of blue and turquoise with white horizontal stripes
Glass beads were a luxury product in Bronze Age central Europe. These 3,000 year-old beads were found in the pile-dwelling settlements of Sipplingen and Hagnau-Burg at Lake Constance. They were probably made in the Alpine foothills from raw glass imported from Italy.

Make sure you've got "colonial exploitation" on your list of reasons not to use AI.
So apparently grammarly stole my fuckin identity
It turns out this film's tagline is in reference to its lead actor...

I enjoyed this graphic novel by Paul Storrie, Rob Davis, & Michael Larson.
In their tale about the daughter of Robin & Marian, they pull from medieval sources, later ballads, Howard Pyle, historical folk traditions, & some real world architecture and topography relating to Nottingham Castle.
After 5 years stuck in development, Disney's "live action" remake of Robin Hood is getting the πͺ.
Are you...

Many years ago, I performed at Ren Faires as a character called "The Answer Man". The schtick was that I would answer any question and do so with a degree of authority and confidence, regardless of whether or not the answer was correct.
Anyhow, that character came to mind for no particular reason...
Tomorrow is the last day for the Gallows Corner ttrpg kickstarter campaign.

What's more popular than hating on 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves??? π€
...
...
...
Having an unabashed affection for it!!! β€οΈπ₯
You can hear a good bit of both in the most recent episode of the Into the Greenwood podcast!!! βοΈ
We have failed.
Again and again we have failed.
Holding the offenders in the Epstein Files accountable is yet another test and we're failing that one too!
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is one of the most financially successful Robin Hood films of all time, but how does Kevin Costner rank amongst all of the on-screen Robins that came before him?
At the end of each Splitting Arrows episode, we rank our latest Robin!

It is my considered opinion that, at this point in time, there are three Robin Hood films that serve as the primary cultural touchstones for public understanding of who Robin Hood is, and what his story world might be like.
With our latest episode, we have now covered all three of these films.
We finally got there!
Nearly 5 years into making this podcast & reviewing every Robin Hood film since Douglas Fairbanks donned a bycocket, we've entered the modern age of Robin Hood blockbusters w/ the latest Splitting Arrows episode of Into the Greenwood!πΉ

A minor gripe I have with many modern Robin Hood adaptations is how a single sighting of Robin wearing a hood leads to him being known as "Robin Hood".
It's just unnecessary and almost always feels forced.
But some adaptations manage to pull this off better than others...
You can checkout the Into the Greenwood podcast feed for a roundtable discussion of the first season with Robin Hood scholars and fans from around the world.
MGM+'s Robin Hood was a mixed bag of hits and misses for me, but I do feel that it has a lot of potential and so I'm excited by this announcement and hopeful that they are able to build on the strengths of season 1.

On episode 60 of the podcast we reviewed 'Maid Marian and her Merry Men", a show that is most remembered on this day in particular!

In the 1990s, our villains didn't chew the scenery...
...they unhinged their jaws and devoured it whole!

Just like with Brazil arresting their insurrectionists rather than re-electing them, other countries are holding their Epstein-tied politicians accountable far better than we do. www.bbc.com/news/article...
I will not infrequently check World of Books to see what crops up.
The over-reliance on AI overviews for "researching" a topic has made me nostalgic for the over-reliance on Wikipedia.
I love the dynamic cover on this 1958 edition of Major Charles Gilson's 'Robin of Sherwood' from the Collins Crusader Series.
Unfortunately, the artist's name is not listed.
