Break to build: fracture as a unifying morphogenetic strategy Summary: This Review presents mechanical fracture as a unifying morphogenetic strategy and describes how developmental systems actively exploit mechanical fracture to drive morphogenesis, reproduction...

Our latest with @torres-sanchez.bsky.social journals.biologists.com/dev/article-...
Breaking isn’t always a bad thing! Think of birth, seed release...
We highlight how living tissue not only tolerates fractures but actively fracture to grow, shape, reproduce, or adapt – across species and scales.

How can cells use information from neighboring cells to improve the spatial precision of morphogen patterns? 🤔

We show that cells can gain positional information by "talking" to their neighbors - how much depends critically on spatial correlations of the patterns.

High-content screening of organoids reveals the mechanisms of human pancreas acinar specification Keshara et al. conducted a high-content screen on pancreas organoids that identified 54 compounds affecting differentiation or morphogenesis. After validating 11 compounds, they focus on Gsk3A/B inhibitors, which, combined with FGF withdrawal, drive acinar cell differentiation, enabling future studies on these cells and their role in cancer initiation in humans.

Congratulations to Rashmi and Karolina and also to the technology development studio of the MPI-CBG without whom the screen would not have been possible.
If you are interested in high-content screening in organoid models, you may want to take a look.
