I would urge the college to reconsider their stances on both of these key issues.
The college claim to set the standards of psychiatry in the United Kingdom - itβs time to do this by publishing the report and a scope of practice for PAs

Dr Senevirtane speakers of the report allowing the college to βprioritise and act on the views of the membershipβ but this does not require the Leng review outcome and in fact relying on the Leng review will dilute the view of members given it is not specific to psychiatry
8/9
This is a huge mistake from the college and in my opinion is neglecting their responsibilities to act as leaders in mental health care in the NHS.
The college should be publishing their report to allow their position, as experts in psychiatric care, to be taken into account.

In her response Dr Seneviratne confirmed (after no previous communication from the college about a delay until this point - now 4 months overdue) that the publication has been paused until the outcome of the Leng review.
6/9
Of greater concern however was Dr Seneviratneβs response to the question at 11:20 asking when the PA review final report will be published. For those who donβt know interim guidance was released in July 2024 which stated a full report would be published by the end of 2024 5/9
It is absolutely essential in my mind for psychiatry to assess communication skills in the recruitment process for a specialty so dependent on communication and truly assessing commitment to the specialty will reduce the very significant attrition rate in the field 4/9
Having read out concerns raised about how people apply to the specialty due to no extra work being involved and ease of applying as this clearly artificially inflates the threshold. Equally while I take the concerns about limitations of single interview stations 3/9
At 7:50 Dr Crichton addresses the question on application to CT and reliance on the MSRA. While it is very positive to hear that the process is being reviewed it was very disappointing to see the high score needed to get a post as a good thing right after 2/9

I am incredibly disappointed by the latest @rcpsych.bsky.social question time with the officers based on the responses to two key questions. The first is on application processes to core psychiatry and reliance on the MSRA and the second is on their review on PAs
Doctors today arenβt worth 22% less than they were in 2008. It isnβt right that weβre doing the equivalent of working a day a week for free.
Full pay restoration is entirely reasonable and still represents good value.

βThe claim raises serious issues of importance to the relevant professions and to patientsβ
The GMC have shown time and time again they are not fit for purpose
Patients deserve better
A victory for patient safety: our case against the GMC over their failure to properly regulate Associates is now heading straight to the High Court!
The Court ruled it raises serious issues of importance for patients & professionals, and he granted permission and expedition.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Sulaymaan Al Majid, our former Co-Chair.
We offer our sincere condolences to Dr Al Majidβs family and friends.
Weβre hugely grateful for his efforts in standing up for thousands of northern doctors between 2022-24.

βRoyal college of nursing say a pay rise of around 2.8% is an insult to workers. Itβs not worth the price of a cup of coffeeβ
@kayburley.bsky.social
A good opportunity to remind people how far our pay has fallen and how far we still have to go
Letβs be abundantly clear - if an offer of 2.8% was put to resident doctors we would be heading towards further strike action and I would fully support this
A below inflation offer is a pay cut which would only add to years of pay erosion
#JoinStrikeWin
#FullPayRestoration
The Governmentβs suggested 2.8% pay uplift for doctors shows a poor grasp of unresolved pay issues.

Are more adult mental health hubs the future? Seems like a great idea, but serving a different type of patient to those who are detained.
@adamskeen.bsky.social and @rmacd.com also
This is a great idea thanks for putting it together! Would recommend adding @melryan99.bsky.social @the-bma.bsky.social @robjimfleming.bsky.social
Genuinely pleased to see this today.
However in the north, we are expecting the NENCβs decision around a possible regional rate cap soon.
Weβre watching both this dispute & NENCβs decision extremely closely.
