i won't shut up about how being a student interested in decolonial studies as well as a rare-pair shipper in fandom puts me in a perfect position to reject canon.

Yes, hello, is that God? Yeah, hi. I have a complaint. You gave me this brain that’s designed for finding berries and avoiding lions and now people are ‘just circling back’ to see if we can ‘move the needle’ on ‘key initiatives’? NONE of those things are berries.

I think it's perfectly understandable that many people feel a deep sense of resentment and disenfranchisement for the time capitalism has stolen from them, but the answer is not to embrace capital's machine that pretends to show you an inner life you aren't having.

Weird day for this but...meet Pan the African Fat-Tailed Gecko! (Short for Pannenkoeken, or Panopticon, or possible just the Greek God.) We've been wanting to get another lizard for a while, and D had her heart set on one of these little charmers.

Recently finished up my last freelance work of the year before moving on to a mad sprint of book writing, so —rather earlier than usual — it's time for my year in review! Here, in no particular order, are the features I'm proudest of.

There's a frustrating dichotomy placed on being Chinese Indonesian where people assume your east asian-ness somehow undercuts how southeast asian you are. And you have to awkwardly tell them the indo government mandated the erasure of your culture and America funded the slaughter of your people here

Prabowo to Announce 10 New National Heroes Tomorrow, Including Soeharto Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi claimed that ten people, including Soeharto, will receive the title of national hero.

Then despite many protests, letters & much opposition, it is expected that President Prabowo will announce Soeharto a national hero in Indonesia tomorrow...

Which is horrific given the huge amount of death & suffering Soeharto inflicted on so many while in power.

I am #Indonesia an empire of arrogance.
I have tanks, Apaches AH-64 Helicopters, missiles, and an endless supply of soldiers who skipped “humanity” class.
We strip mountains, gut rainforests, flatten villages, and lecture Papuans on “order.”
Freedom? We decide who lives and who doesn’t. #WestPapua

Indonesian activists protest plan to name Suharto as national hero Get the latest breaking news and headlines from the largest Arab News website. Get world news, sport news, business news, entertainment, lifestyle, video and photos.

Suharto was a brutal dictator who disappeared and mass murdered many innocent civilians in Indonesia and East Timor. Any attempts to name him as a national hero is a spit in the face of all those who suffered at his hands.

From Kenya's 'Gen Z protests' to the world: Youth as a global constituency - Development Matters Around the world, young people are turning to protest as electoral politics fails to address their grievances. So what do today's young people want – and are policy makers prepared to respond?

Saw a New York Times headline that seemed to suggest that African countries were somehow particularly susceptible to the so called “Gen Z” protests. I’ve written a little about why this framing is disingenuous and also infantilising in various platforms. oecd-development-matters.org/2025/04/30/f...

Melbourne Bergerak hold "Vigil for the Disappeared" In solidarity with Indonesian activists targeted, silenced, and disappeared under the Prabowo regime.
At the state library Victoria, Naarm / Melbourne
Saturday 27 September 2025 6PM

After the mass protests of 25–31 August 2025, human rights groups (KontraS) reported at least 20 people missing.
- Two people remain missing as of 23 September 2025: Muhammad Farhan Hamid and Reno Syachputra Dewo; last seen at Police Mobile Brigade Corps Headquarters, Kwitang, Central Jakarta.
- Over 3,300 people have been arrested by the Indonesian Police.
- 1,042 wounded.
- 10 confirmed killed during those protests.
- As of 23 September 2025, 583 protesters remain in custody on charges including incitement, assaulting officers, and damaging public facilities, and some are even being prosecuted under the Emergency Law, a relic of the wartime dictatorship.
- The police cyber division hunts those who speak out.
- Books are confiscated by the Police Forces.
- At the elite level, Prabowo entrenches military rule, filling politics and law with military generals. The same institution brought General Soeharto to power after 1 October 1965 and carried out mass killings that took hundreds of thousands of lives. Its grip on power continues today.

‼️WE DEMAND‼️

1. Immediate release of political prisoners.
2. Truth and investigation into those who have gone missing.
3. Accountability for violence committed by state forces.
4. Recognition that protest is a human rights, not a crime.

Happy to announce the sold-out Indonesian version of "We Have Tired of Violence" is now available in a 2nd printing from marjinkiri.id, local bookstores, and online shops. It's timely, as some protestors have begun bringing a copy to demonstrations since the first run came out last year.
