It'd be interesting, however, IF the F-150 Lightning were still on sale, and we did see gas prices soar...if we'd see a greater fleet take-rate for those trucks and the hybrids.

I mean, who knows what the heck could happen if gas climbed north of $8-$10 a galoon. I honestly just don't know.
Well given that a HUGE chunk of F-Series sales are fleets buying them, who are likely not as swayed or woed by rising fuel prices, I don't really know or believe that'll ever happen.
I don't have a crystal ball or exact number, but *so many* large pickup truck buyers are repeat buyers. There's massive loyalty in that segment, and even a casual truck owner (who never really tows or hauls) would likely stay within that segment and drop to a smaller engine if gas prices climb.
For an F-150 driver to change segments? That total historical 20%-21% of mainstream consumers (any segment) that would change vehicle types if gas prices rise...the figure is probably *much* lower for full-size truck owners who are usually sold for life in that coveted segment once they enter it.

Literally 90% of F-Series owners probably don't need an F-Series.
My dad's old RX-7.
But! Even though the chances of a consumer switching vehicle segments is much less than switching powertrains...when it comes to how much a gallon of gas needs to climb in order to trigger a vehicle segment change, that price increase at the pump is slightly smaller (~$1.25 per gallon).
Once a consumer is locked into their intended, desired vehicle segment, it's hard to pull them out.
"leap" as in prices at the pump would need to jump A LOT in order for powertrain changes to happen (by increasing probably by $2 per gallon from where prices are at now).
Historically, based on our @autopacific.bsky.social research...when gas prices soar consumers are *more likely* to switch powertains but not vehicle types/segments (i.e. go smaller), and it would take a big leap for the former to happen.

The surge is hitting the West Coast and California, where drivers already paid the highest prices in the nation, especially hard.

I always find Carfax's monthly Recall Tracker super interesting to read. Per @patrickolsen.bsky.social's latest report, high-risk "Park Outside" recalls dropped by 600k vehicles YoY in February (2.3 million now compared to 3 million).
Agreed
Totally missed this. We haven't gotten the latest new Venue in the states yet, and I'm cautiously optimistic Hyundai will bring it here, but it does look rad.
