Had a LOT of fun with this one. Made me rethink epi of CS and if we are under (or over?) identifying certain groups. #ID #IDsky
Iβm Chicago born and raised, this city is filled with feisty folks, I donβt see the average resident siting this one out, there will be mass protests that hopefully stay peaceful.
My adult daughter Rachel works everyday, pays taxes, loves going to movies with her friends, and listens to awful (IMO) music.
Our U.S. Dept HHS has lost all of its humanity, compassion, and intellectual curiosity
I feel like Iβve met a milestone for any infectious disease trainee or provider β contribute to a MMWR β
. Really interesting trending and observing unexpected findings of our CNS syphilis cohort in Chicago Illinois.

In the current political climate, many misunderstand/misrepresent NIH "indirect costs", which cover facility and administrative costs essential for research
Here's a video that explains what F&A expenses cover, how they are determined, and why they are essential

Dear #medsky Together we can help patients understand the importance of vaccines. No matter your specialty, please start talking about vaccines at every visit. Love, #idsky

Had a great time assembling this DoxyPEP review with @anuhazramd.bsky.social , one more step towards reducing STIs in high risk populations

Way to go Michael!!
A bright spot in current hellscape we are living through β my brilliant mentee presenting his work on ID match rates based on statesβ reproductive and/or LGBT restrictions. Data will certainly be only more relevant in the years to come. #WeAreID #IDSky
Just publish paper evaluating effects of vaccination on long COVID risks in children/adolescents during Delta/Omicron periods
We found vaccines strongly protected against long COVID-19, and the effect was almost wholly mediated by reduced infection risk

I ran @USAID health programs for the last 3 years. Trumpβs 90 day Stop Work Order on foreign assistance does serious damage to the world and the US. Examples:π§΅

Beyond reducing acquired STIs through behavioral mechanisms, doxyPEP might make a lasting impact indirectly through other comorbidities in other priority groups such as pelvic inflammatory dz, congenital syphilis, etc. Ongoing studies may reveal other downstream findings, excited for 2025 data.
I truly hope that we can move through this quickly, so that all the CHWβs, research administrators, and public health officials affected by this may continue their life, saving work on the forefront of countering American disease among all demographics. π
I needed to remind myself that thereβ thousands of people, both within and outside the infectious disease world, whose hard work on the front lines in ensures if improvement of outcomes, from viral infections to chronic health conditions. Even interruption of a few days-weeks can affect thousands
as someone about to graduate ID fellowship, the NIH price freeze immediately prompted my βhow does this affect my k23 application?β But today I realized Iβm fortunate to always have clinical medicine to do, as opposed to many community workers and research workers fully dependent on NIH financing.
I had a lot of fun riding this one with @anuhazramd.bsky.social , definitely a topic with some controversy, but could be a pivotal move to help reduce the incidence of this (not so) βhiddenβ syphilis epidemic.

The ID march of shorter treatment is ok continues, this time for bacteremia (not including S. aureus).
FYI, E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterococcus, and CoNS made up > 70% of organisms.
By pathogen breakdown of risk difference emphasizes applicability of these results for GN bacteremia.
I can't find African Scientists and researchers easily on here. As the second largest continent with 1.3 billion inhabitants our perspectives matter. I'm creating a starterpack to find folks, follow them and amplify them. If you are an African Scientist let me know below so I can add you. Thanks.
Fun QI study looking and reducing ID fellow burnout. Essentially having more Attending physician presence makes for happier fellows π
