New review in Psychology of Sport and Exercise just dropped:
Chronic physical activity β€” both aerobic and resistance training β€” may prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
Here’s a thread on the strongest non-pharma tool we have:

A great read, and especially relevant in today’s athletic climate.

I’m sure we all know the feeling of burnout. Student-athletes are no different. It can be helpful to dig deep into our β€œwhy” to pull out some of the reserve motivation that we have. If you aren’t familiar, I highly recommend the work of @simonsinek.bsky.social on this topic! #Psychology #Science

Teams grow throughout the year. This Duke squad is a perfect example of that. Not to mention, a great coach that knows how to truly harness the team’s chemistry.

This is a great point. Many of the athletes that I work with are goal-oriented and have lost the love of the process that they once had. Some of the most impactful sessions that I’ve had have been the ones where we redirect the attention back to the process and realize that the goal likely follows

The people most obsessed with looking like high performers are usually the ones doing the least meaningful work.

They chase hacks, not habits. Optics, not outcomes

The real pros? They’re too busy doing the thing to document every detail of how they prepare to do the thing

Substance > show.

It’s interesting to see all of the talking heads not liking when someone has a voice of their own.

I’ve had a lot of younger individuals, high school students and undergraduate students, asking about sport psychology. Sometimes I find it hard to adequately describe the profession to them and I often refer them to the AASP website. Do you all have any additional resources to share?

Momentum exists in sports. We normally only think of momentum as positive. This appears to be a great example of the contrary.

This is such an important area of research. As many of us know, the transition from our sport that has consumed most of our lives into a new role and identity can often be a daunting task. Hopefully, researchers, practitioners, and other influential figures can help ease that transition for athletes

An impactful study from Dr. Prior, Dr. Thomas, and Dr. Rhind. The role and purpose of a sport psychologist can be unclear for many including athletes, athletic organizations, and even ourselves. However, that ambiguity does not equate to lack of impact. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

This is exactly what we need more of in the world of sports! The more elite athletes that discuss similar topics, the more normalized it becomes. This is how we defeat the stigma. Thank you Mikaela

Every racer experiences fear, especially coming back from an injury. It’s just that many of them don’t talk about it.

Mikaela Shiffrin does.

To unlock your potential with a growth mindset, try these things:
β€’ See challenges as opportunities.
β€’ Focus on effort, not perfection.
β€’ Turn β€œI can’t do this” into β€œI can’t do this yet.”

What’s one challenge you can reframe today? Let me know!

One element of sport psychology that has resurfaced to prominence in the academic realm is the practicality and implementation of the research. It is great that many researchers continue to ensure that there research is being properly applied rather than simply prioritizing publications #psychology
