Self-Inflicted Writing Streak: Day 100
- It happened! 100 straight days of writing!!! 💯
- Finished draft one of my short film screenplay today.
- It’s been a grind.
- Glad to have fostered this habit.
- Taking a break from streaking.
- Longer post potentially coming tomorrow! I learned a lot. :)
SIWC: Day 99…
- Worked out the potential middle story beats for this short
- Wrote a couple pages
- I feel like there’s a missing piece I can’t solve atm, but will try to finish draft 1 of the screenplay tomorrow!
SIWC: Day 98
- Wrote an actual ending! I like the ending. I now need to tweak everything to justify the ending.
- Fun times!
SIWC: Day 97
- Focused on writing out action and logistics in the screenplay instead of dialogue today. I’m less used to doing that.
- Reworked the opening. Added a lot of clarity throughout.
- Still need to figure out the middle bit.
- Hoping to also get this one done by day 100…
SIWC: Day 96
- Wrote right after waking up today.
- Was nice to be creative before any pessimism sets in.
- Basically wrote a very dense two page story climax
- Now I just need the middle bit and a closing image.

- Set the timer for 30 minutes. Wrote for an hour!
- Looked up some navy terms. Steeping my sci-fi in specifics.
- Generated a few new pages for my not-so-short short film.

- Booted up Fade In
- Four characters established
- 5 pages of screenplay format writing complete
- It’s fun playing in an old familiar world with a new POV.

- Did a bunch of non-narrative writing
- Then assembled and tweaked a few scenes for the film script… still a loooong way to go on this short, but working out the characters and dynamics.

- Read through an old script of mine.
- Mined for my favourite moments.
- Stole my favourite lines for something new.
- Wrote a bit of dialogue.
- Discovering a new character.
SIWC: Day 91
- Wrote a new opening for my sci-fi/horror short.
- Also solidified a key relationship to kick things off!
SIWC: Day 90
- Wrote a love letter to Toronto. ♥️
- I made a note of something to add into a scene in my play.
- Daydreamed about a short film.
SIWC: Day 89
- Updated my notes for the play and included casting guidelines
- Updated the script format (basically took out the partial empty pages) to get a more accurate page count. Plus save paper!
- Did some unrelated copywriting
- A very different kind of writing day, but still counts!
SIWC: Day 88
- Nothing new for the main project today. It’s in a good place, so had to dig for motivation today.
- Wrote some positive affirmations for my future self
- Wrote a chunk of dialogue that could slot well into my horror short film. Still clarifying terminology and redefining that world.
SIWC : Day 87
- FINALLY got a version of this new scene feeling good.
- Tweaked another scene
- Changed the last line of the play.
- The full draft is workable again!
SIWC: Day 86
- Reworked a scene for over an hour. Trying to tackle a tough subject and also struggling not to make it cliche or rage bait. It's a thin line. Getting there slowly.
SIWC: Day 85
- Dropped the new scenes into the script doc.
- Rewrote a lot of dialogue.
- Will need to finesse the ending of one new scene. But that gives me a clear goal for tomorrow’s writing session!

- Chipped away at yesterday’s scene again. Almost done. ☑️
- Will be so great to get actor feedback eventually.
- Also did a bunch of non-theatre logistical writing today so I’m tapped out.
SIWC: Day 83
- Started on a new scene that feels potentially important and features a unique POV. But might be another one that needs more research to complete...
- Right collection of characters. Right topic. Tough to execute.
- I do like a challenge! But done with this one for today.
SIWC: Day 82
- Wrote a new heavy hitting subtext lifting scene extender. Yay!
- Tried to add another important research based add-on to another scene. Felt like a book report. Nay…
- 1 out of 2 is better than zero!

- Worked through Act 2
- Applied notes and tried to lightly work in some of my research
- Added some stage directions
- Changed a character arc ending
SIWC: Day 80
- Back on the main play again today
- Spent a couple hours applying notes I made on Act 1.
- Rewrote some scene endings and dialogue for better flow.
SIWC: Day 79
- Breaking the story a bit more for this short idea
- Defining key relationships
- Thinking about specific scenes
- Plot would have to change from the old script, so the big question… How do I end this thing…
- Going to try and write a bit more dialogue before bed.

- Watched a film for research. Seeing what I can learn from a very specific story structure.
- Have a few new tangible ideas for how to adapt this story into a short film.
- Would be a big overhaul but an interesting idea!
- Wrote a quick new scene that would support the adaptation.

- I wrote a short horror/scifi play before Halloween, and today I re-read it, made notes, and thought through the process of maybe adapting that concept to a short film…
- How would that story work in that medium? How do I hold the audience’s interest? How much would need to change…?
SIWC: Day 76
- Not my most productive writing day, but still moving forward…
- Wrote some short and sweet poetry
- Broke down the characters in each scene to see how each character arc flows. There’s a lot to keep track of!
- Playing with adding more mythology in small places.
SIWC: Day 75
- Mulled over structure again
- Listened to Joachim Trier talk theme
- Considered a new location for the intermission.
- Created and added many things to a kind of bonus list of scene ideas
- Researched a lot of truly wild factual stories that could spark something.
- Weird day

- Read through the second half.
- Flagged things for edits
- It’s still missing a little something but I don’t know exactly what. Hoping it becomes obvious eventually…
- Moved a scene from the first half to the second. Better fit.
- I can’t wait to have actors work this stuff.
SIWC: Day 73
- Printed draft 1 of my new play. It’s a real thing! On real paper!
- Half way through a read. Stopped at intermission.
- Leaving notes and thoughts.
- Thinking about alt lines.
- Fixing typos
- Wondering where can I still pour gasoline on the fire…

- Wrote a quick scene.
- Basically trying to feel out the two lead characters for this tv idea
- I think I might just have to write a bunch of non-essential stuff until I understand their voice, and then get back on plot.
- One step closer to a real thing.
SIWC: Day 71
- Still brainstorming this potential TV thing.
- Trying to see what drives the characters (and then what drives the show)
- Started mapping out an episode.
- Would love to write dialogue, but need a clearer picture.
- The idea has promise though! ✨
