Our goals:
1️⃣ Showcase the breadth of STM systems across biology
2️⃣ Highlight shared principles & key differences in evolution
3️⃣ Connect researchers across fields
Examples span:
✅ Active uptake – e.g. spermatophores
✅ Passive transfer – e.g. ejaculates, milk
✅ Forced transfer – e.g. hypodermic injection
These systems are fascinating but often studied in isolation, we aim to bring them together.
💡 What’s it about?
Many organisms transfer materials to conspecifics beyond just gametes or nutrients, including:
🥛 milk
💦 seminal fluids
🧴 skin secretions
🍲 regurgitate
🦠 even symbiotic microbes!
They can cooperate with the recipient… or act in conflict with their interests.
