In Lambeth weโre buying back former council homes to help undo the damage caused by Right to Buy depleting our housing stock.
Investing in our council homes, building new ones & buying back old ones - weโre taking every step to tackle the housing crisis.

If everyone in the Netherlands or Denmark started using cars for short trips to the shops, commuting to work or dropping the kids off at school.
It wouldnโt be long before those countries had traffic congestion as bad as the UK.

Conspiracy lovers and opportunistic politicians, with some wealthy folks working behind the scenes, have been trying REALLY hard to make us scared of the simple idea of having more things nearby, and more choices in how to get them.
Weird, right? #UrbanTruth
Last time I spoke to PK was at Labour Party conference in 2021!
Great to speak this week at the Garden Museum with partners driving this forward.
Because in a climate emergency, nature isnโt optional. It is vital. Every child deserves wildflowers on their street and birdsong in their parks. 2/2

In Lambeth, biodiversity isnโt a buzzword. Itโs action.
From 40 Bee Roads ๐ธ and 12,000+ new trees ๐ณ to thriving wildlife at West Norwood Cemetery ๐ฆ, real change is happening when councils and communities work together. 1/2
I remain committed to ending rough sleeping in London by 2030.
This investment from the government is welcome progress to help tackle and prevent long-term rough sleeping, ensuring those most in need receive the care and support they deserve.

Brilliant to see that every feasible primary school in #Lambeth will have a School Street by 2027. Thank you @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social for your strong leadership, and for putting children's #Health and safety first. ๐ฅ ๐ ๐
National borrowing is falling faster than expected.
Inflation is down.
Interest rates are falling.
Real wages are improving.
And the U.K. is the fastest growing of the wealthiest countries in Europe.
Step by step, weโre getting our economy back on track.
Sorry this is just too funny. ๐

It's time for 3000 words of catharsis (fully sourced! And with new numbers!)

The evidence from the 2 years since Wales set a 20mph default for urban/village roads is clear:-
1,270 fewer casualties
134 fewer of them being fatal or serious
ยฃ45 pa lower insurance premiums than without 20
These are big wins for communities, NHS, emergency services and economy.

It was very nice to get 200+ more followers this past week. (Thanks @brenttoderian.bsky.social) And so I'm saying hello to all. And also wanted to post a few things here if new to Streetfilms.
I have been documenting streets since the late 1990s and helping NYC & the world make them better.
In Lambeth weโre committing to installing a School Street for every eligible primary school.
Currently, 45 School Streets serve 50 schools. By March 2027, the remaining 10 primary schools not located on main roads will also have School Streets. Read more here:

Great graphic showing cities on a triangle graph showing if they are most oriented to public transit, active mobility or cars.
Have you seen this? This recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips that are by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

More School Streets now.

This is about health, safety and fairness โ and weโre going further through our Healthy Neighbourhoods work.
My message is clear: be ambitious and hold your nerve. Safer streets for children arenโt optional โ theyโre a moral obligation.
People gathered in a council chamber in Lambeth for the 2026 School streets conference
Great to host Lambethโs 4th School Streets Conference at the Town Hall today.
We now have 45 School Streets serving 50 schools โ with 16 made permanent in the past year alone. Our goal is simple: a School Street at every school so children can travel safely and breathe cleaner air.
Community energy can lower bills, protect community assets, increase energy security and tackle climate change.

Solid fuels approach in Brighton is going well says @timrowkins.bsky.social but before anything was done, they had to explain to people why there is an issue.
In Brighton, they have real-time measurements of a range of pollutants, focussed at schools and parks. Data, evidence and framing.
York cllr Jenny Kent agrees, saying "health health health" is her message. Comparing movement to how we won the smoking ban with no appetite to go back on that.
First speaker @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social points out that focus on most polluted areas and hughlighting the positives of nicer streets and healthier neighbourhoods is how theyre doing it in lambeth.
Bright-eyed at day two of Labour LGA conference to discuss how we win the politics of air quality.
How do we enpower the voices of those cllrs across the country who are delivering on this issue for their communities.

Clean air is vital for a healthy, fair Lambeth.
Through bold action the borough has seen a massive shift: Brixton Road went from 883 pollution breaches in 2015 to zero in 2024.
Proof that sustained local leadership & climate strategy work!

๐ฝWhere the conspiracy theories have come from
