Good on you for taking a shot at that job anyway!
In a piece of man vs. a pipsqueak, Gary Cohen and I were both up for the Pawtucket Red Sox job. Needless to say the PawSox made the right decision. And I continued to anchor news on a 500 watt radio station in Wickford, Rhode Island,
Steve Levy and Keith Olbermann should be proud.
What athlete's expression will stay with you the rest of your life?
If, by any chance, @georgetakei.bsky.social (Warlord Shank) catches this video, he ought to appreciate what Walter Jones (Harlan Band) and Anik Matern (Android THELMA) have to say about him from the 5:41 to the 6:21 mark.
Next Monday marks 30 years since the sci-fi cult classic Space Cases debuted on Nickelodeon, and the Splat Attack Podcast is getting a headstart on the milestone by having six of the showβs core cast members reminisce on the series and the production thereof.

Although Splat Attack is produced by β90s kids and (primarily) for β90s kids and β90s kids at heart, this monthβs installment of Collectors Corner has some items that would appeal to our parents and others to our Gen Z brethren as well.

A reminder that the Rhode Island gubernatorial election is this year!! π³οΈ
Many Rhode Islanders who rely on RIPTA to get around have been severely impacted by service cuts. Our state deserves leaders who wonβt throw riders under the bus. We need leaders who will commit to properly funding transit. π
Happy birthday, Sarah!
This weekend will mark 35 years since Welcome Freshmen debuted on Nickelodeon. Splat Attack is acknowledging this milestone anniversary and filling us in on the seriesβ history and legacy with insights from various alumni.

Happy World Pizza Day to those who celebrate. (Though personally, I'll wait to observe until Friday and cannot, for the life of me, understand why this occasion doesn't always fall at *that* point in the week.)
Following last month's "Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein" announcement, I had an itch to find out how many actors have played Frankenstein's monster and performed on a '90s Nickelodeon show.
It turns out there were quite a few.

Happy Massachusetts Statehood Day to those who celebrate.
As someone who once followed an adolescence dream into daily sportswriting, I can vouch for your first sentence.
And if I must single out any one part of Sally's article, it is the sage directive to "look with a hard eye, write vividly and observationally, and hit our deadlines no matter what."
Happy Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson Feast Day.
For the uninitiated, those two colonial leaders settled key locations in what came to be Rhode Island, and their ahead-of-the-times stances on separation of church and state, feminism, and race relations are especially worth remembering today.
I'm thinking of Jeffrey Marx, a one-time WaPo writer whose book, Season of Life, centers on NFL player turned HS football coach and pastor Joe Ehrmann, who talks about Men Built for Others versus Men Built for Themselves.
Between WaPo and Amazon, a certain someone surely falls into the latter camp.
So many Monty Burns, so few Arthur Fortunes. #IYKYK
Like I just posted, maybe this is my lack of business and economic knowledge talking, but something tells me the Washington Post, of all papers, could afford to sustain a sports section rivaling that of the golden-age Boston Globe...if the movers and shakers wanted it to.
I'd genuinely like to ask any business/economics experts to weigh in here: With an owner like Bezos, shouldn't WaPo be able to (among many other amenities) field a sports section on a par with the legendary Boston Globe staff of the mid-'70s-to-early-'80s?
Excellent, eloquently articulated points by @kvanaren.bsky.social in a well-earned tribute, though one we certainly weren't prepared to read in the past tense so soon. #RIPCatherineOHara
FWIW, while the media industry is an imploding nightmare that makes one question why they ever wanted to do this for a living, @awfulannouncing.bsky.social is going strong, always accepting pitches for sports media-related stories, and is not owned by any billionaires. Yet.
Kudos, Julia!
I take it this rules out any chance of hearing the jingle "πΆPut your Red Sox on! W-P-R-OπΆ!" again anytime soon?
"...we really have to zoom out and think about all of the things that impact low-income individuals and families...Itβs really thinking about hunger in a much broader way of, βHow do we ensure that people can thrive?β"

Sure thing, Sean! And as someone who builds his breakfast around a bagel more mornings than not, I am one of those celebrants, so thank you too!
