Man I could write a book about this, working in a city where the transportation dept and climate dept are silo’d as separate functions.

It's up to Colorado to shield consumers from the price shock of Xcel Energy’s data-center related building boom It's a tall order for Colorado utilities regulators: slow electric bill hikes while cutting pollution and promoting economic development

Meanwhile, Xcel's profits could triple to $1.9 billion by 2031, while electricity rates rise as much as 55%, according to state regulators. .... It's up to Colorado to shield consumers from the price shock of Xcel Energy’s data-center related building boom coloradosun.com/2026/03/12/x...

i knew a bunch of folks who worked at Facebook's outsourced content moderation shop in Austin and it fucked a bunch of them up, so i'm imagining that at a larger scale (of both operation size and depravity). The tech sector is, I suppose, an imperial actor

It’s easy (more easy than accurate) to dismiss academic critics of generative AI as uninformed or emotive, which is often anyway code for “moralizing.” But it’s remarkable how much gen AI boosterism requires feigning ignorance that theft and impersonation are widely seen as wrong, for good reasons.

Something strange happened before this story was published. An on-record source backed out and asked to be removed -- after being contacted by the director of Denver's transportation dept. We decided to address this in the story, transparently:

Yes. It’s so stupid, I work in muni housing and can say it is extremely challenging to deploy rental assistance in 30 days or less.

Also, rental assistance dollars are good, and would be more impactful if the tenant is not getting evicted before the city can deploy dollars to assist them. These are complimentary tools, not an either/or question as the Mayor frames it.

Judge Orders Colorado to Stop Throwing Prisoners in Solitary for Refusing to Work - Bolts Years after voters amended the state's constitution to ban forced labor in prison, a court ruling could finally make Colorado change how prison guards "compel and coerce" work.

Remember, as Jared Polis argues that Tina Peters was punished too harshly, that this is how his Department of Corrections has treated everyday, non-famous prisoners: required labor for almost zero pay, and possible solitary confinement if you decline to work.

Denver debate meant to showcase civility in political discourse goes awry In a sign of just how toxic political discourse has become, a debate in Denver aimed at modeling civility ended in a political protest.

This is hilarious, they brought on a guy who is trying to compel Colorado cities to partner with ICE in a showcase of civility in politics, and predictably the event is disrupted and cancelled by protest. Shoutout Tim Hernandez, Michael Fields is a bastard.

America is about to learn how tiny the federal gas tax has been all this time. 18¢ per gallon, unchanged since 1993 and not tied to inflation. Fill your SUV’s tank and you can buy half a pack of gum on Uncle Sam.

Despite the past decade of war, the Pentagon still struggles to adjust to the reality of asymmetric warfare. It was IEDs, not Chinese stealth jets or Russian state hackers, that created multibillion-dollar agencies that spend billions of dollars on armored trucks and explosives detectors. Technologically unsophisticated insurgents who built $100 bombs killed thousands of troops and pushed the U.S. into an arms race it could never win. The Pentagon never addressed the reason bombs had become so effective against its troops; it just wanted to build a better truck.

Anyway, I’m posting that old article today for no reason, it has no bearing on the current ongoing conflicts the US is wrapped up in.

Connecticut gas tax could be suspended as prices rise and Lamont calls for action "I would think sooner rather than later. I think the need is right now," Gov. Ned Lamont said of a gas tax holiday.

Watching the CT legislature quietly eliminate free bus fares for high school kids after it passed last year(a few million $) as the governor casually talks about using $500 million on a temporary gas tax holiday is pretty radicalizing

Rising gas prices in 2026 should not be treated like rising gas prices in 1970, we can and should use this as a moment to hyperscale decarbonizing the economy.

I’ve been 95% car free for 6 years now, really not worried about the price of oil on a personal level. E-bike + bus pass is cheap!
